NYU Abu Dhabi

There are 6 RD-ers I know of that have gotten into NYUAD.

Decisions came out Friday - did anybody here get accepted? I’m really looking forward to hear from more future classmates :)

I did!, pm me PeaceDove

@linting2012: yay and congratulations! Could you start the conversation maybe? Apparently I wrot too few posts to start a private conversation ^^’ Thanks :)

I’m applying for the upcoming year! I just came across Abu Dhabi and I have been looking up every thing I can about it and it seems like my type of university! Anyone else planning to apply? I am from Kentucky but currently am spending a gap year abroad in Ghana! The acceptance rate is a little scary to think about, however it never hurts to apply. Sort of wishing it was August 1st already so the I could start working on the application!

I’m applying! I know what you mean about the acceptance rate, its lower than Harvard’s! But I just love this school so much that I’m going to try anyway, especially since I can apply here and the other nyus. Oh and I’m from ny.

So I am definitely applying. Reading the comment that mentioned not to worry much about your standardized test boosted my confidence level very much. Mine aren’t so great to be quite honest. ACT- 23 with writing scored an 8 on a 2-12 scale but I have TONS of ECs that will make up for that plus I’ve studied abroad in South Korea through a very competitive scholarship and I am about to study abroad again, this time in Ghana through another competitive and State Department sponsored scholarship. I feel I have a chance at this. Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

@westofguam !!! AHHHHH YAY! We should talk more and you should add me on facebook so we can stress over this together! (I didn’t see your comment before I had posted my previous).

I would love to have someone to stress over this with but actually don’t have a facebook. But I’ll add you as a friend on here! And I think you have a great chance. You’re really global which, I think, is what they want.

That’s okay, we can PM on here like you mentioned! I’m super excited, glad I have someone to share my excitement with!!

Hello, everyone - Class of '17 here. If any of you need advice, please feel free to reach out.

@FrancaiseLove do you tell your counselor to nominate you? Or do you just hope that they do?

@ancientdreams You need to definitely sit down and have a meeting with your counselor about it. Be well prepared, know why NYUAD is important to you, and try your best to convey that to your counselor. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have a fabulous counselor that’ll nominate you. :)

Thanks @FrancaiseLove I’m going to have a meeting with my counselor when school starts. It’s just that I don’t think my counselor even knows about the nomination or much about NYUAD in general. So I don’t want to be to pushy and all ā€œyou should nominate meā€. But I will definitely talk to them.

Hey you guys! I’m applying ED1 to NYUAD! It’s so great to meet all of you. I’ve been meaning to ask something for a while now. My stats are as follows:

8 O levels - 4 A's, 3 A’s, 1 B
2 A Levels - 1 A, 1 A
1 AS - A

My ECs are:
Blogging (Grade 11 & 12)
Founder and Chairman of Why Not?! School Magazine (Grade 11 & 12)
Student council Vice president (Grade 11 & 12)
First Place in Debating Competition Grade 10)
Teaching Assistant (Grade 11 & 12)
Youth Development Program (Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12)
Best Delegate in Model United Nations and Model Arab league. (Grade 11 & 12)
Local Charity committee going to outreach places in Egypt to aid people under the poverty line with food, clothes (Grade 11 & 12)
Intern at Egypt’s no. 1 bestselling magazine, teenstuff (Grade 11 and 12)

My questions are:

 1. Do I have a chance?
 2. I have to state on my CommonApp that I’m doing the SAT in October. I’m only doing it for entry to other colleges if I get rejected here (which I probably will). Unfortunately, I’m expecting no more than a 1900 for my self so should I send it to NYUAD where the median is higher or not? Is concealing a score from them even legal? and would it look bad if I don’t?

@FrancaiseLove I’m a gap year student! I’ll be applying to NYUAD while I am in Ghana. Do you think that being a gap year student would hurt me? i.e. they looking at it as ā€œwhy didn’t she apply during her senior year?ā€ or maybe I’m just over thinking that haha I honestly had no idea about NYUAD until just recently.

@AdamAshraf of course you have a chance! It’s worth taking a shot at no matter what! As for the SAT…I’m not really sure…

@AdamAshraf @ancientdreams it’s so nice to meet both of you!! Where are you guys from? :)

Oh and also I am applying with Abu Dhabi as my main choice campus, anyone else?

@GyasiAfua, I am Egyptian but I was raised in Dubai. Just moved back to Egypt about a year ago. Abu Dhabi is my campus of preference and NYU is my ED Choice.

Question, since NYU is my ED Choice, do I still have to revoke my application from other colleges if I only get into my second choice campus (Shanghai)?

I’m from New York. I’m still unsure on which campus I’ll put as my first choice. Does anyone know if you are less likely to get into your second choice when you apply?
Oh and not doing ED as I can’t afford that.
