NYU Abu Dhabi

I haven’t gotten mine either.

I’ll e-mail them if I don’t have it by the 19th.

Dear Murtaza, I am so sorry your hopes for attending NYUAD did not come through. I am very excited though at the idea that you will bring your cultural sensitivities and awareness as well as your great attitude and fortitude, to a university in the USA. Schools and students here need your perspectives and will so benefit from your attendance. Have a safe and great next four years.

@abudhabi-mama – Thank you for your words, its just a big opportunity for me to study in the States, so I’m hoping for the best.

hey ppl has anyone been invited to the march CW?

Just got my ticket email!

Anyone else?

Hey y’all! So did any other of my ED2ers get the email notification saying that we’ll hear our admission decision on March 2nd? 13 days! I can’t wait!!!

@Reaper1Nanashi I got mine too =) Now I just need the visa on Feb 21.

@bmraotwtn I did too! Haha, it must be much harder waiting if you’ve already been to the CW. Ours is later, so we don’t have to wait in that kind of anxiety as long :P

bmraotwtn

Hey guys! Okay so yesterday I got invited to the March Candidate Weekend and I just about DIED. Except my mom is freaking out about me even going to Abu Dhabi even for a few days! She didn’t want me to apply in the first place (I’m from the American Midwest and my family is not at all international). And she’s been hearing about the unrest in Egypt and Bahrain and everywhere else and thinks that it’s the same in the UAE–that it’s really dangerous there. I’ve tried to explain to her that it’s a much more stable and free country than the rest of the Middle East, but she doesn’t believe me.

So. First of all, can anyone refer me to a HIGHLY reputable source that can attest that it’s safe in Abu Dhabi? Also, are there any current students of NYU Abu Dhabi that read this? Can they personally say that they feel safe? And I can show her the posts to somehow convince her!

Oh gosh, if she won’t let me go for a weekend how will I convince her to let me actually attend if I get accepted??

And then some random questions–about how many students are at each candidate weekend? And does anyone know about how many students who visit are accepted?

Hi hlfinsninsmnc - my son is currently attending NYUA - and he is having a great time. Abu Dhabi is an insular place - removed from the demonstrations and political unrest by a very strict, not really democratic, regime. There are pro’s and cons to this - but a real pro is the safety for the students. You will not be as safe in many of the big US universities, drugs and alcohol are no real danger, and the academic demands are such that there is really no time to get into trouble. Feel free to have your mother pm me - I think it is a great opportunity for you - and for your parents as well.
