NYU Abu Dhabi

yep, fingers crossed, good luck to us all :)

So is there only one CW reserved for regular admissions applicants?

Guys, have you all received your NetIDs? I mean the one for checking your application status. I turned in my application a few minutes late and haven’t received my ID yet! :(

@internationallie
Are you sure you submitted the actual application? At the signature section on common app?

@ hopefultree, u are right! And more so, Maybe you should check your spam too and if it’s not there. Then I think you should visit you commonapp account and check out you app status. Check if it has been downloaded by the college. There will surely be a clue on your common app account! And @ everybody here, I have a problem with my ALBERT and NetID in general. It logs in but my ALBERT page never opens. Hope there is no problem. Cos nw am starting to become a frightened fellow! OMG. Wat has NYUAD turned us into? Pray I meet you guys in the following candidate weekends and we get to talk of how we were waiting anxiously on CC!

Is there anybody who has an answer for my question?

@ sinohellenic, it’s lyk the first cw in 2012 will be for ED11ers only while the second in Feb will be mixed
Just mathematical and statistical guess am making there! Am not so sure! But are you a RD applicant?

Ya, I applied RD to NYUAD. I was accepted EA to a school, so I’m happy about that, but NYUAD looks awesome, and I’d definitely consider going. Also, what is the ALBERT account? I have a NETID account, but I’m not sure what the ALBERT is.

@sinohellenic
Albert login is under academics when you login with your NETID.
@alegedeebrainiac
My albert page wouldn’t open the first few times I tried to open it, but started working after the third or fourth try
I don’t know what else you can do though

Hey guys, I’m also an ED II applicant and I heard from an NYUAD rep that invitations for the january CW will probably be sent out by January 12th at the latest

Yeah, I calculated the dates from december’s cw and I think the latest date for cw invites is always 2 weeks before the actual travel date. So If you apply that to feb cw, I guess cw invites should be out before feb 2nd

@hopefultree, thanks for that nd I guess we should all be waiting for invitations from next week! I also got a Rolling Application to FIT but my choice is NYUAD. I really want to meet awesome people like you

@NinoCricco, its nice!!!

Thank you guys! I mailed the admission office and the problem was fixed. I finally got my NetID! :)

Same! Just got mine today. I really don’t think I have a chance of getting in though so my hopes aren’t too high. Good luck everyone!

@internationallie and yardog! It’s nice to hear that. And I think nobody should loose hope till it’s all over. If you think you will make it there, you will surely be NYUAD mingling with friends! Hope always promises you positivity in negativity. Always have hope. A little philosophy from me to Yardog! i will be expecting to see your post heare saying that you got an invitation. And to everybody alike. Wishing all of us goodluck!

Guys, did you all mail in your transcripts? My school uses a program Naviance that says they just submit the transcripts and recommendations in electronically. Do I have to mail them in as well if I applied for Abu Dhabi?

My counselor is supposed to have uploaded them via commonapp, but my albert loginsays they haven’t gotten my sat scores and transcripts. The top of the page says that stuff might be unchecked on the listbeacause they still haven’t been processed. Should mail them my transcripts?

Hi, I called NYU Abu Dhabi admission office and the officer told me that each applicant only needs to submit his transcript by one way, either online or by mail. My transcript is also shown as not received in the Albert system, and my counselor has submited it online. So I guess that it is still being processed. Don’t worry:)

As person born and raised in Abu Dhabi, I don’t understand why people find NYU AD appealing
at all. First, Abu Dhabi is a very boring city, especially when compared to NY. I, a local resident, can’t name more than 5 things to do. We got a few malls, a few parks, an admittedly amazing hotel, an impressive mosque
and that’s it. Moreover, Abu Dhabi isn’t a cheap city. Real-estate here is ludicrously expensive and rivals Manhattan’s prices. The same applies to a lot of merchandise we have here. Most importantly, the weather sucks. We have 3 months of good weather, and 9 months of intolerable summer weather. In May and June, temperatures can rise to as high as the mid forties on the Celsius scale (about 110 Fahrenheit). You’d be surprised how much the weather will affect your mood and health. Because the weather is horrendous, you can forget about outdoor activities and daily jaunts (it’s not like there are interesting outdoor activities anyway) . Finally, even though Dubai and the Northern Emirates aren’t too far away, going there is only possible during weeklong holidays-- because of the drive and all. However, Abu Dhabi is truly a safe and friendly city (I’m trying to comfort all the Arab-phobists).

Second, NYU AD’s campus is
well there’s no campus. As far as I can remember, NYU AD has only one or two buildings. It isn’t expanding anytime soon, by the way. Its “diverse student body” isn’t different from NYU’s usual student body. You’ll meet a healthy mix of Asians, Europeans, etc. However, you won’t become acquainted with new cultures and perspectives you can’t find in other university(I don’t really buy this stuff, but that’s a story for another day). This is especially true if you believe you’ll learn anything about the Arabian-Persian to all you Westerners- Gulf, its politics and culture. Heck, you probably won’t even meet one Gulf Arab (let alone Emirati) on campus or in the very cosmopolitan city (okay, you might meet a few, but you’ll probably learn our culture on only a very shallow and artificial level). So, what is the point in coming all the way out here if you can find the same experience at any other university?

I can understand applying to NYU AD for its generous financial aid; however, I’m 100% sure that you can find more generous schools that are less selective and more interesting. Can someone please explain the appeal? Also, I went through NYU AD’s website, and I have one thing to say: who wrote the demographical and educational facts of Abu Dhabi? They are utter garbage. It’s like they made up numbers and put them on the website. Shameful, NYU AD, shameful.

Have you applied for NYUAD this year
?
