NYU Abu Dhabi

That’s a relief. I haven’t got any CW invitations yet and I am an ED II applicant. Can anyone tell me whether all the invites for the selected ED II applicants have been sent or not?

I have a feeling that people think I’m trolling :(. Oh whatever.

I’m positive that NYUAD will challenge you. However, you can be challenged at so many universities in the US. Also, I’m pretty confident that you can find smart people at pretty much any university. The weather in Nigeria is probably as horrible as Abu Dhabi’s, so I think you’ll feel at home.

Those projects you mentioned are jokes. Anybody who has even a speck of knowledge of Abu Dhabi knows that Masdar wasn’t the best of ideas (NYU AD was also a horrible idea). Honestly, becoming a “global city” has been marginalizing the UAE’s culture and identity- and a lot of people don’t like it. However, that’s a story for another day.

I remember meeting one of NYU AD’s students. The person was claimed to be some kind of hotshot in the UAE’s language and culture, so I decided to talk to him in Gulf Arabic. He barely understood a word. Moreover, the things he said were nonsense. If these guys are so excited about cultures and languages, why don’t they even know what’s going on in the country they are studying in? Perhaps the student’s knowledge of other cultures is better, but I’m not impressed in the slightest from what I’ve seen. It was a pathetic display.

I know Abu Dhabi like the back of my hand, and I’d say NYU AD’s location in Abu Dhabi is pretty good, so I’ll give it that.

I think I’ll stop bothering you all for now. I’ll say one last thing: many Abu Dhabi residents- including government employees- hope to stop funding this waste of money soon. I’ll ■■■■■ away now.

Please do not stop posting Cardgames, it is good for applicants to see other opinions. And of course Abu Dhabi residents are not so happy with the local money spend funding the university. But I think it is a good investment - really. I didn’t mention the museums before - because as you know they are not there yet - and anything can happen over the next years. But I think the chance of these buildings to be build and open are very much related to the success of NYUAD. In the mean while I’m just jealous of the great food available to you - nothing that great where we live.

Can anyone who got invited to cw tell me what what changes took place on Albert?

Nothing changes in your Albert page :)

I applied early decision II and received by invitation yesterday. Although the deadline for passport information is today. So I only had one day to turn around all of my information. Is anyone else going for the January CW?
Good luck to everyone else! I honestly didn’t think I’d get it after being rejected from Georgetown. Plus my scores aren’t incredible. So don’t give up yet!

Hi, I’m also an ED2 applicant. Thank you for your encouragement. I hope that I’ll get invitation for the Feb CW… If possible, could you please post your stat and sat scores…? Thanks a lot!

Good luck golalago! I never took the sat. But my act is a 32. And my weighted GPA is a 4.2. But I think what helped me was that I’ve already studied abroad as a sophomore in high school.

Wow you are an exchange student:) I guess that everyone who gets invitation is so unique. Good luck for your CW!

Great job everyone who got invited to CW! So pretty much anyone that got invited to January CW has already got the invitation, and therefore no more will be sent out?

@yardog
I guess so. Since jessupendo says that “the deadline for passport information is today”. Let’s wait for the Feb CW T_T

Yeah, I really do hope we get an invite to the February one! Actually if you all look at Pages 82 till like around 90ish of this forum, many of the EDI applicants had similar questions/concerns as we do now. It’s really resourceful!

Good luck everyone!

Is anyone’s ‘transcript box’ still unchecked? Does that mean that they have not processed your’s yet and there is still a chance that you may be invited for the february CW?

And yes, congratulations and best of luck to everyone attending the January Candidate Weekend :)

i don’t think the nyu website reflects the admission process up-to-date. i was invited to the january cw and my transcript box is unchecked as well as my standardized test box.
( im an ED 2 applicant)

congratulations jessupendo I believe that we will meet soon.

It seems that many have got the Jan CW invitation… Congratulations and good luck! I’ll keep waiting…

Yeah! I agree, lots of people did get invited. It kind of makes me think now that I probably won’t even get invited to the Feb. CW. Anyways have a great time!

For those who wrote the writing sample on a proposed research topic, what types of things did you write about?

This forum is so dead now that people have received CW invites.

Mine was something business related. And apparently, it didn’t work… :D
