NYU acceptance letter--is this normal?

Yesterday I received my acceptance letter from NYU’s Graduate School of Continuing and Professional Studies. The letter said I had to complete my reply form and send in a $500 check within 2 weeks of receipt of the letter. However, I have yet to hear whether or not I received any scholarship money or financial aid. Also, they have an information session event on April 17 (after my 2 weeks time). Is it normal for them to expect me to put down my deposit without having any idea how much aid I will be receiving? I mean, money (cost) is one of my major deciding factors as to where I will be going.

Also, can I put in my deposit at two different schools, and then just “eat” the cost at wherever I choose not to go? (not sure if that question makes sense the way I’ve worded it). Thanks for any input!

Contact them to try to buy more time.

Yes, many people do put down deposits on more than one school. Keep in mind, though, that you are effectively taking another qualified applicant’s place. Hopefully you can make your decision without too much delay.

They should be giving you two months, not two weeks. Contact them and tell them they will need to wait until all results have been reached and you have reviewed their offers.

“Dear NYU admissions, the pool of qualified institutions is very strong this year…” :P

Ha! That’s perfect. I’ll give them a call this afternoon. Thanks for all the input.

heh…love that “pool of qualified institutions” crack…that is hilarious!

same thing happened to me – NYU/Wagner.

rofl nauru
