NYU Admits: Big Loans = Unaffordable

There is an epidemic of threads on this board from NYU admits asking about the giant loans they’re being offered. So let’s have one single unified thread to answer the question once:

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT BORROWING $100,000+ TO GO TO NYU.

NYU is well-known for its awful financial aid policies and trying to stick students with six-figure loan debt. Anyone who’s been offered that kind of “aid” from NYU, know right now that you’ll end up with monthly payments of $1,500 or more for the next decade. IBR just stretches your pain out well into middle age, and massively increases your costs.

Run the numbers for yourself. Be scared by the kind of penury you’ll face when the debt collectors come calling - or destroy your credit rating with a default.

NYU. Is. Not. Worth. It.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this. Although it doesn’t necessarily affect me personally, it’s a point that needs to be made. I’m all for small loans if it’ll cover that last few thousand, but I’ve seen a good friend of mine really suffer financially because of huge college loans. Four years out of school and he can’t afford his own groceries. Debt ain’t pretty, people.
