NYU and NYU POLY?

I heard next year NYU POLY will officially merge with NYU. Does that mean the ranking of NYU POLY will be same as NYU because currently NYU POLY is ranked #138.

[Polytechnic NYU | Polytechnic Institute of New York University | Best College | US News](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/polytechnic-nyu-2796)

NYU-Poly will cease to exist as a separate institution after full consolidation, so yes.

Don’t let the ranking fool you by the way. This school is tough; academics are not taken lightly here. The main reason the ranking is low is because of the previous student quality. Poly’s old fame (2nd oldest engineering school in the nation, was the largest engineering school in the past in terms of enrollment) became overlooked as other schools became more popular and Poly was forgotten by many, causing difficulty in recruiting good students. Poly refused to lower its standards to match the ability of these students and thus it caused many students to quickly transfer or drop out. Those who stayed often required 5 or even 6 years to graduate. The school almost became broke because of the difficulty in recruiting students as well. All these things caused the rankings to plummet, and that’s why some of the state schools in NY have better rankings. That’s why the NYU-Poly merger is great because Poly has now been able to attract worthy students, the school’s finances are now stable, and it will be under the umbrella of a larger university that takes academics just as seriously.

Do you know if NYU’s rank will be negatively affected due to the merging of NYU Poly?

If I apply for a two year MS in Manufacturing Engineering for fall 2013, will I get a NYU degree certificate or a NYU poly certificate?

If the merger finishes before you graduate, then most likely. But no one knows when the merger will be complete, since there is still no set date. The estimate given is 2013-2015. Remember, university mergers usually happen in the summer.

I am applying for MS in CS in NYU poly…!!Can you please tell me what is post graduation job scenrio of it and what could be the average starting salary…?

Hey Jimbo, I understand your post is old but would you be able to tell me where you got your information from? I found your post very informative.

Thank you NYUenigineer for the reply. I will look into your links and ask you if I have any further questions.

Hi , NYUengineer… I am an international student and eager to apply to Poly . I have gone through those links you provided. I understand that this year’s fall admission into Poly , students have to apply through NYU admission process. So, I had a question about it. ’ Do I have to complete the supplements of NYU and send every material to NYU for applying into POLY ? It is said so in the website ! '

Another thing, what are the aid facility of Poly towards the internationals ? Is merging with NYU help international students to get more funds ? I need really generous aid to complete my higher education, so I need to know about the financial aid options before going for it.

Edwood09 I am a graduate of NYU with a bachelors in chemistry I was not affiliated with NYU poly whatsoever but I can tell you that NYU offers need based scholarships only. It goes by your family income. I am a NY state resident and my family is considered middle class income I was not given a penny in aid from NYU and I now have over 200K in student loan debt. I’m not vastly familiar with the international program I had a buddy from the United Arab Emirates who also was denied any aid due to family income. I recommend weighing your options I currently work as a senior scientist for Pfizer, however it took me 5 years of either keeping my college waiter job or my entry level scientist job with a company that paid nothing…due to NYU my credit is destroyed and I will be in debt forever…I will never take away the quality of education you will get by going to NYU it is truly a dynamic environment and the classes are extremely difficult. You do get what you pay for the education is top quality but before you sign think long and hard about the cost…looking back I’m very proud of where I graduated from, however I have some doubts and regrets about turning down a full scholarship from a university that wasn’t as “big name” as NYU…good luck I hope what I wrote was helpful
