NYU, BC, NorthEastern, SU, USC, etc. Chances!

Hi people!

I’m currently a junior and here are my list of schools without my stretch schools…

NYU
BC
North Eastern
Seattle U
USC
Tufts
Santa Clara U
Loyola Marymount

GPA-4.1 weighted
Unweighted-3.72(Around 3.94 without Freshman year)

Act- 30(Taken in October cold, I studied and took it recently, waiting on the scores at the moment)
Potential Majors- Finance or Economics
My strengths in school are definitely math and science, and I’ve never gotten below an A in my math or science classes.

Disabilities- OCD, Tourette’s, Anxiety, and a Learning Difference
(These are a big part of my essays and my extra curriculars as well)

History of bullying in my family around my TS and also at school as well. Will talk about my optimism and persistence to advocate for myself in order to create opportunities for myself despite the situation.

Then how I used my own experience to help others, backed up by my EC’s…

EC’s-
Stem Club
Golf(Captain)
Cross Country
Active in parish community

Eye to Eye- A national affiliation, and at our school chapter we go to a middle school and help mentor kids with learning disabilities and we teach them how they can manage it, and we are there for them as a friend and companion.(one time a week for almost 2 hours)

Public Speaking- I have a huge passion for speaking about TS awareness in many venues.

Because of my rough history with acceptance, public speaking started out as an outlet for me to express myself and to also learn how to communicate my needs regarding my TS to others. Speaking helped me open up my true self to others, and is something i take seriously…

Anyways, I’ve spoken to over 400 kids at my own highschool in multiple panels and I spoke about TS to spread awareness but with a bigger message of encouraging them to find help for themselves or their friends if they are ever struggling, especially with mental health.

Spoken to many middle schools about TS with the main motive of spreading awareness to reduce the stigma in those schools and hopefully reduce bullying with the increased awareness…

Trip to D.C. With the TAA(Tourette Association of America)- A leadership conference training speakers to advocate for themselves and others with TS. We spent a few days of training and I presented to the aides of the rep of my region and the senators of CA to ask for more money, research and education of teachers regarding TS.

TEDX Talk on TS- Spoke about how there is always a flip side to adversity, and used my personal story to hopefully inspire others to not be afraid to tackle their own challenges,

Over the Summer-

Will go on a 2 week immersion trip to Tacoma, and we will serve a disability community for adults and will do farm work

This summer i will go to a 1 week TS camp in Georgia, and we will also be trained to lead kids and overall leadership skills so we can return as counselors to the camp the following year.

2 week Biotechnology program at Northwestern( I’ve been interested in science, but have started to shift away from it, but decided to do it anyways since I already registered)

So, would be wonderful if you guys could chance me, and I will chance back if you leave a link!

Hi,

I have just completed the college process and actually applied to some of the schools on your list.

NYU - reach. This would change if your intended major changed, but finance is in stern at NYU, which is the hardest school to get into. I believe the mean GPA is a 3.9 and the mean SAT is a 1430/1600. There is also an obscenely low acceptance rate. Most other schools at NYU are significantly easier to get into, but it is subjective. I got into steinhardt (and will most likely be attending) with slightly lower grades and test scores. However, I had an upward trend in grades, fantastic rec letters, good essays, strong extracurriculars, and was waitlisted initially.

BC - I’m assuming you mean Boston College? If so, it’s a high match.
Northeastern - high match. I was rejected.
Seattle U - safety. I was admitted to the honors program with a big scholarship.
USC - match.
Tufts - reach.
Santa Clara U - match/safety.
Loyola Marymount - safety.

Your new ACT score (if higher) could help out your application immensely. I wish you all the best on your future endeavors!

Thank you! Yes, im hoping the ACT score jumps up. On practice tests I’ve been getting around 33/34. But, those are practice tests, less stress and always easier for me at least. So we’ll see what I end up getting

Im shocked that you would think Tufts and USC aren’t reaches. They are both highly selective and essentially not a match for anyone regardless.

If you really like NYU, I suggest looking into the Liberal Studies Core Program. I’ll be going into it this fall and it seems like an amazing program. You spend your freshman year fulfilling core requirements (three core classes and one elective a semester) and your sophomore year is spent finishing up core requirements and beginning courses for your major (one core class and three electives a semester). You then transfer into one of the other colleges and finish your major there. I’ll be transferring into CAS and doing the Politics major. Classes are small (30-ish), so you won’t be in a huge freshman seminar. You would have a great chance for NYU if you considered going into LSP.
