NYU/Columbia University Transfer What are my chances?

Hi everyone. I’m an international student attending school in Japan. I realized that my goals are beyond just finding a job in Asia, and I want to finish undergrad in the US and receive a US college degree. Right now, my school’s GPA system works completely against me and on top of that my department’s grading system works against me. There’s only two english speaking departments in my university but only our department goes with a (up to the professor) bell curve system. The average GPA in my department say is 1.9-2.3 out of 4.0 and in the other department is around 3.4-3.6. I know one person that has a 3.3, and she has the highest grades in my department - showing that the system just completely works against me.

I applied for junior standing for NYU 2016 Fall, Boston University, and a bunch of UCs with my current credits - around 53 credits + 8 APs and a strong recommendation from my international relations professor. I fluently speak 4 languages, and have worked with firms in China, Korea, and Japan. I had a lot of paid internships + jobs that I did during the semester as EC and was a part of the Politics club, and the school’s official tennis club here. But was rejected from all.

I’m currently thinking maybe it’s just impossible for me to get into NYU or any of these schools under the current system I’m locked in. SO I need some opinions.

Here are my choices as of now…

  1. Discard my 2nd semester grades here (as no matter how good I did with straight A’s, it would give me a 3.0 below. An A = 3 out of 4.0 at my university) Take a gap semester to work on my business here then go to CC in NYC (to save some cash) for a year and a half - then apply to NYU CAS junior standing for 2018 Fall.
  1. Discard my 2nd semester grades here (as no matter how good I did with straight A's, it would give me a 3.0 below. An A = 3 out of 4.0 at my university) Take a gap YEAR to work on my business here (this would make me qualify for Columbia GS) then go to CC in NYC (to save some cash) for a year - then apply to NYU CAS junior standing for 2018 Fall and Columbia GS 2018 Fall

These are the choices I listed based on the fact that staying here longer will add horrendous GPA to my records and that would work against me.

Or do you guys think it’s probably better for me to finish off this semester? (I received scholarship for a year and a half, so my parents are okay with whichever choice) since some people mentioned that school’s don’t even consider students as “junior standing” if they don’t have nearly 90 credits. THIS COULD BE COMPLETELY WRONG haha.

Also, should I take my SATs again? jw
