********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

@sinahodge my stats looked pretty similar to yours and I was admitted ED1. I definitely think it depends on the school you’re applying to. I applied to LSP because I have absolutely no clue what I want to do and I do a lot better in smaller classes so I’m sure you’d have a shot applying there. But also if you know where you want to apply to, it’s best to apply there instead of being stuck in LSP for two years when you know what you want to do.

@runner625 i got in with a 3.3 gpa (with a C+ in freshman and sophomore year math-eek!), 31 ACT, and will have taken 5 AP’s by the end of high school. But, I did a whole lot of EC’s such as harvard model congress, staff writer for school newspaper, working as a camp counselor, spent a summer studying art history in italy, and started a mock trial team and prevention of human trafficking club. I also worked really hard on my essays and made my whyNYU essay really personal. I also had my recommendations written by 2 teachers that knew me super well. I wish you luck!!! Never give up hope, I was not expecting to get in at all!

@iywang

Thanks! Your stats are ridiculously good. Crossing my fingers for Stern, but I’d take CAS too.

In case anyone was interested! I was accepted to Steinhardt for Nutrition, Food Science, and Public Health.

GPA: 3.826 of 4.0.
SAT: 1900 (610 MATH 640 READING 650 WRITING)

I wrote my essay about me using weight lifting to recover from anorexia.

I am in a collegiate high school on a college campus. I graduate this May with my diploma and my Associates in Science.

I also am doing a senior Capstone project (kinda like a college thesis) about agricultural biotechnology. I included this information in the “extra info” area of the common app.

ECs:
-powerlifting (4 years)
-interned with City Wellness Coordinator
-health blog (4 years)
-personal trainer
-health YouTube channel (2 years)
-coached my old schools football team one summer for powerlifting and yoga

  • senior mentor (basically i mentor some of the incoming juniors at my high school at the college)
    -barista at Starbucks

I had a really strong letter of recommendation too.

I hope this helps!! Good luck to everyone applying ED2 and RD!!

As an ED2 applicant, congratulations to everyone who got in this round! And if you didn’t I’m sure you’ll still find a great school to attend.

Housing: yes freshman in NY

So freaking excited to attend! Hope I can see all of you on the NYU 2020 FB page within the next few weeks!

For RD/ED2 2020 or 2021 applicants

  • School: Gallatin
  • GPA: 3.5 (grade deflation)
  • SAT: 2210
  • One of the top private schools in the US
  • Great ECs with leadership positions (examples: chief marketing officer of a website, 10 years of Indian music training, internationally competitive choir etc)
  • Really good essays, why NYU essay went into detail of what I want to do specifically at Gallatin (they're looking for really eccentric people so essays count a lot)
  • Great recs (4 submitted - 1 from counselor, 2 from teachers, 1 from choir director)
  • Submitted an artistic portfolio with musical vignettes of different styles I sing (attached to common app)
  • No hooks, didn't apply for FA
  • I have been in contact with my regional counselor for months so that might have helped since the person who read my application was familiar with who I was (just a tip)

FA change: I don’t think I got it, but I might have missed a wave
Housing: Yes, freshman in NYC

To everyone who was accepted, congratulations, and to those who weren’t I know that you are all qualified to go somewhere fantastic and that I really hope you don’t see this as a reflection of your self-worth. Stats and essays only go so far–this is a pretty unfair and unpredictable process overall–if you did your absolute best, don’t sweat it. You’ll go really far. Also good luck to future applicants.

Hey guys! I want to say congratulations to all of you who were accepted, and I hope to meet you all on WSP next year!
I’m an ED2 applicant, and I can see there’s a strong correlation between the housing change and acceptance. I’ve tried to go back some pages on the chat to find out how I can access this change online, but I didn’t find any info! Could you guys tell me how I can view this change on Albert?

For future applicants:

For this round, FA change is proved to be pretty much meaningless, but the housing change (if it says Freshman) is accurate

For RD/ED2 2020 or 2021 applicants

  • School: Gallatin
  • GPA: 3.62 UW at highly Elite Private High School--but downward trend
  • ACT: 30

EC:
-Owned a business
-Multiple Art Awards Nationally/Internationally(In Carnegie Hall)

  • Awesome Essays
  • Great recs (3 submitted - 1 from counselor, 1 from teachers, 1 from NYU professor)
  • I have been in contact with my regional counselor for months so that might have helped since the person who read my application was familiar with who I was (just a tip)-- I copied and pasted this from another Gallatin acceptee. THIS ONE IS HUGE.

FA change: I don’t think I got it, but I might have missed a wave
Housing: Yes, freshman in NYC

Good Luck Everyone!! To all those accepted, you deserve it. And to those who didn’t, remember that everything happens for a reason, and you will truly end up where you’re meant to be. The thing that I noticed is that NYU acceptance is VERY unpredictable… they look at your stats and all, but in the end, they accept based off your essays and how well YOU fit in the school.

Also, all these theories aren’t worth the anxiety. I get that they help in the moment, but the only true one was the housing. Deep breaths!!! See you all next year <3

School : LSP
GPA: 3.68 weighted , school doesn’t do unweighted
ACT: 33

EC:
Pretty good amount. Don’t really wanna type everything

Other:
Common app essay was really good. Why NYU showed I really knew the school / would fit in there.

FA Change: Like others have said, I never saw it, but I missed a wave.
Housing Change: Yes, Freshman in NYC

All I really have to say is if NYU is what you want, go for it. They really are looking for people that will fit into their community and if that’s you and you’re in the ballpark, you have a shot. My parents and college counselor didn’t think I would get in. Neither did my friends. Believe in yourself!! NYU is unlike any other school so please go for it!

@NYUDreamer1 Hey the housing change was actually only averrable starting the day before decisions were released for us in ED1. Its a link but i unfortunately don’t have it.

After I payed for my tuition deposit and housing enrollment, there were two options to click, return to home page or proceed with housing. After I clicked return to home page I couldn’t find where the link for the housing application was. And after going back, it says that I haven’t payed for the tuition deposit and housing enrollment… Any help or suggestions???
