********NYU ED Class of 2020 Discussion**********

Although schools may deny it, ED is always the better way to “get in”. Admission Officers always have a deep fear that they’ll accept someone who won’t attend, so by applying ED, you’re making their decisions easier. Which means for the sake of filling up the seats with “acceptable” students, they may accept you with lower standards.

But, it’s not financial-healthy. They know you’re dying to get in, and will less likely offer you some huge amazing money to lure you to their school. Also, even if they really really really want you, all they have to do is meet no more than than your need, they you’ll be obliged to go to their school.

So you’ll have to look into it. If NYU is definitely your top choice, and your family can afford full-tuition, definitely go for ED2, you’ll also have the benefits of knowing decisions earlier (trust me a week of waiting is already killing me) But if you have 2400 SAT, 5.0 GPA and just won the Nobel Prize in Physics, then I’d recommend RD and go get that giant financial package.

@iywang Thanks! This is really inspiring. I think i will have a conversation with them :slight_smile:

Results coming out in a week from today!!

Almost there! How are you all holding up?

Hey i’m new to this thread, but i applied ed1 to NYU CAS and am so nervous for the deadline! I have a 1900 SAT and 3.7 UW GPA at a college prep school. Seeing all of your scores is making me even more nervous, but do you think I have a shot? To make up for my poor numbers, I have awesome EC’s (7/10 which are leadership positions) and decent essays. Is getting into NYU with this SAT score unheard of?

Don’t be worried I think you have a shot. A pretty big chance actually. I’ve heard from my college guidance counselor that Nyu cares about reading and math sections the most so your score is pretty high.

My sister got in last year with a. Combined math and reading of 1180 to Steinhart. And a 91 gpa. It all depends- again they review your application holistically so there’s a chance for everyone

@jhirn2020
@NTXDad are we completely discounting the FA change theory now?”

I don’t think so. If you saw the change I think the theory holds true. For those who did not see the change, they have to just hold out hope, because the change is not going to be visible to anyone until the acceptances are released.
The kids in ED2, RD, and class of 2021 & beyond, are likely not going to experience the FA change phenomenon.

My cousin applied to CAS with a combined math and reading of 2400 but didn’t get in because maybe his essay? ECS? You never know. Good or bad score they review you to the max potential.

@ferrarivettel I have to partly disagree on one statement, in that they will less money to ED applicants because they know they really want in and are bound to attend if accepted.
If you apply ED, request Financial Aid, and they accept you, you actually have a few weeks to accept or decline. So requesting Aid actually gives you an out. Therefore, they will still need to offer the desirable students a good financial package.

@NTXDad In the past few years, there have been varying versions of the FA change. Is it 2017 - No Self Service award available or 2017- Award Access not available or both?
What I saw was 2017- No Self Service…

@remuwannabe If you read all the threads carefully, the FA change you are looking for is the “No Self Service…”

Everyone started with the Award Access Not Available. Now, with the recent changes to Albert, that is all anyone will see.

My DS got the change during the narrow window last Friday. I did not take picture and not sure the exact words. I think it’s ok if “2017” in the FA change.

For those who got 2016 for short period, then switched to 2017, I wonder which school he/she applies.

@lovenyutisch On Thursday night my FA changed to a table with 2016 and then during the narrow window on Friday it changed again to the 2016 and 2017 chart. I applied to Tisch film.

My FA status just changed! Applied to Tisch with CAS as a second from PA.

@KH1255 just now? strange.

congratulations anyways!

Very strange! I checked late last night and there was nothing. Wonder what that means! I am applying to Tisch for acting, so I’m wondering if mine took longer because they had to factor in the artistic review.

Hey can someone describe to me the Financial aid change again? Currently, my screen says:

Financial Aid

Select Aid Year to View

Award access not available.
Select the appropriate aid year above to view your award information. If the aid year is not activated, your award information has yet to be determined.

It changed to this about a week ago. I can’t find anywhere online where someone clearly lays out this whole “glitch”. Thanks a lot if you can help me out! :slight_smile:

@rjhoff9393 what you have rn is default. you do not have the change. no one has the change ( apparently except for @KH1255 )

@KH1255 can you discuss what you have on your FA further? It’s weird because we thought they had “hidden” the change lol.
