NYU ED I: How much can ED increase your chances?

Just to give you a brief idea about me:
My GPA is about 3.5 UW right now and my SAT superscore is like 610 M, 580 CR, 620 W.
I am in or have been involved in 8-9 ECs/Clubs (only 2-3 I’ve been in for one year). Among that, I tutor kids for free, piano for 5 years so far, and I am pro at using computers and certain programs (I’m not even sure if this counts).

I really want to ED to NYU but I am wondering with just those standards alone, do I even have a shot at ED or is this a serious high reach?

I am also alumni affiliated I think. My half sister, whom I’ve never met, went there.
If she does not count, then I am a first generation college student.

Also, finaid may not be a HUGE problem for me and from what I hear, NYU prefers that as their finaid sucks anyway.

U might have a chance but not Stern, try it.

Your half sister is still a relative. You being a first-gen helps. We can’t judge anything about you in terms of ECs. Please list them in detail, how long you’ve spent. In terms of SATs, your okay.

To build on, I was thinking of applying to NYU CAS.

My ECs, in detail, are:

 • Student Council (2 years, on Student Body this year)
 • Global Studies (2 years, secretary)
 • Key Club (4 years)
 • National Honors Society (3 years)
 • Student Ambassadors (1 year)
 • Rotary’s InterAct (2 years)
 • Recycling Club (1 year)
 • Debate Club (2 years)
 • Learning For Life (2 years)

I’ll be taking the ACTs in Sept and I’m aiming for a 28~32.

I wanna know if I should bother with it because although my scores aren’t good, I will be polishing up my essays in return. But I wanted to know if I even should waste my and my teacher’s time with the essays if I barely have a shot.

here is some stats(pure) and results from a California Top HS.

http://www.pvpusd.k12.ca.us/penhi/collegeacceptance/collegeacceptance.html

many of them were accepted by NYU, you can see yourself if you are in the ball park or not. Check with your own HS’s naviance for similar results.
