large, competitive public high school (one of top 75 in the US) - not sure how much it matters, but it affects class rank a lot.
cumulative GPA - 3.5 unweighted, 3.67 weighted - upward trend and huge improvement junior year, especially 2nd semester (3.8 uw and 4.1 w)
The dent in my transcript are my Cs in math… 4 semesters in a row in just math… 
no other Cs on any same semester though, mostly As and Bs. Kicked up my game 2nd semester junior year with all A’s besides finishing math with a B. (stronger than the other semesters at least?)
My schedule, especially when I include my senior year, shows a clear focus on social sciences. I am very strong in history/ social science and will be taking AP Psychology, AP Econ, and AP Gov senior year
Class Rank - haven’t checked officially, but approx top 20-35%? hard to tell from my school.</p>

APs : World History - 5, expecting 5s on APUSH + both AP Music Theory subscores/composite for 2012
SATs and ACT unimpressive - took both only one time with absolutely no prep (and unfortunately a carefree attitude) - 1730 and 27. Doing a lot of prep over the summer to take september and october tests. Expecting at least 1900 or 2000 and 29-31.</p>
<p>-student government - student body secretary, class historian
-freshmen peer mentor - all 3 years possible, group leader and activities facilitator
-spirit committee (will be all 4 years) - 2 years of management positions
-film club public relations officer
-12 years piano - passed Grade 8 ABRSM exam with merit
-vocal performance - versatile in repertoire and performance experience
-music production - was invited to record tracks in professional studio, released tracks online for public download
-world percussion - this will be a large focus on my application. I am extremely passionate about percussion and especially Latin/African styles. will get a rec from my instructor. It has shown me so much about the world and I love to connect history/social movements to rhythms. I am the teaching assistant for my instructor and am currently doing a summer internship with him.

ec essay - percussion (not sure if I should add that many people doubted me because I’m an asian girl? It might sound too cheesy, but its true…)</p>
<p>will have strong rec from a history teacher. I don’t know my counselor very well because my school is huge and she’s always busy. should be okay though</p>
<p>NYU is definitely my dream school and I’d maybe mix psychology and some sort of music/musicology together at Gallatin? not sure, but either way, I know I will be applying to Gallatin with a good reason sooner or later. I’m just not sure if it would be smarter to apply ED or RD. Of course ED %s are higher, but my senior grades won’t be shown and I think that would help (expecting at least a 3.8 uw) and I’m not sure how I measure up to other people who apply ED. But again, NYU Gallatin is my #1 choice.</p>
