NYU Hopefuls 2015

The standard of academics is not identical to the rest of NYU. My D is a current student (BM, Steinhardt) and would have gotten in on academics alone (top 5%, 97.8 GPA). However, the talent portion is very important and accounts for 50% of the decision. The other 50% does depend on academics, but the qualifications they are seeking are not the same as the rest of NYU. Many of these super talented kids would not have gotten in if the line was drawn at the same SAT level and GPA as non-talent programs.

Don’t get me wrong, many talented students are not accepted because of academics that do not meet NYU’s standard for their music/art/film programs. And NYU’s academic standard for talent-based programs is higher than most other schools.

I re-read the post regarding MT you posted (I had contributed to it several years ago.) What I said earlier in this thread and what is being said in the older posts is the same.

Students need to be somewhere within NYU’s academic range to be accepted into the talent based programs, but since talent accounts for 50% of the decision, a student whose academics are on the lower range can be be accepted more readily than if they were on the lower academic end without talent to boost their application.

For example, a student at the 25th %ile for GPA applying to Stern is not as likely to get in to NYU as another student with the same academics who become a likely admit when their 75th %ile audition or portfolio is accounted for in the process when they apply to Steinhardt or Tisch.

;lasjdflasdf IM SO FREAKING NERVOUS TO APPLY.
I’m planning on applying RD to Stern (I would apply ED, but I’m applying for financial aid D:)

Chance me PLEASE  ?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/951284-nyu-only-dream-me.html

Tisch - Drama ED!!
I’m going to the NYU summer acting program. Hope that helps me out. Well, from what I see everyone here has a chance already because we’re so enthusiastic about it and the Asst. Admissions Director told me they regard that when choosing applicants.

So what other schools are on your lists?
So far I have: NYU(#1)!! Vassar College, UCLA, DePaul, Barnard, Yale(for kicks), USC, Carnegie Mellon and University of Miami

I’m sure there’s a portion of the Tisch kids who fall in the 25%ile statwise, but there are athletes, legacies, URMs, underrepresented states who do as well… I’ll bet if we could see the stats for the Tisch kids that they would fall along a similar spectrum as the general NYU population.

I think that the Tisch applicants who fall in the bottom 25%ile have to be among the most talented at the auditions to offset that. And, they certainly can’t be out of the NYU stat range entirely.

I would imagine that Tisch actually accounts for a high percentage (on a per capita basis for the number of kids in the program) of students who are ABOVE the 75th% for NYU, and this is because quite a few turn down Ivies or other top tier schools to go to Tisch!

In fact, IMO the corollary is, that for students who have been judged with equally “talented” artistic review marks, the acceptance nod will go to the one with the better academic stats!

Bottom line is, don’t count on getting in Tisch because as a poster said several pages back, that they “go easier” on you because of the grades!

theatrenerd15- Well I’m applying to NYU ED so if i don’t get accepted, ill apply to;
Northeastern (EA)
Tulane (EA)
Hampton (safety EA)
Syracuse
UChicago
American
GW
UMiami
UCLA
Temple (Safety)

I’m visiting NYU this Friday. I can’t wait! And I’ll definitely apply to CAS but not ED. What do you all want to major in?

Major in Psychology possibly minor in Pre-Med

Major in Media, Culture, and Communication and probably minor in business studies at CAS :)

I think the NYU application comes out August 1st!!

I hope so! I actually wished it was in mid-july, but i think its impossible…

Oh nice, I’m not sure what I want to major in but I’d definitely be doing Pre-med. I really hope so because I really want to get started with all of my apps before senior year starts. but I dont know how Ill survive months without knowing if I got in or not haha

I want to go to Stern for econ/finance.

so did anyone else notice the CC Resources at the beginning of the forum?

Fingers crossed for ED NYU CAS! I want to double major in History and either Journalism or MCC.

I’m applying to CAS ED :)

hannah, wouldn’t you apply to steinhardt then?

I went to an info session and campus tour and absolutely loved NYU!

Julia- Really! I’m going to the info session and tour on Friday and I can not WAIT. What exactly did you tour? and where did the tour end?

We went to an enormous library, then my tour guide took us to the top floor of some building and you could look over the entire Washington Square Park area and the view was amazing. Then he took us to the Stern building. He showed us a dorm (each dorm room has its own bathroom!) He also tried showing us a classroom in one of the buildings but the doors were locked. After I just walked around the Washington Square Park area and it just seems like a great place to go to school. I live in NJ, about an hour train ride from the city, so going to school here would be my dream!

Haha how are you guys gonna pay for NYU?
