Not the best thread to be asking for chances. We’re just kids who are hoping to get into NYU lol.

I was thinking the same thing lol

lol should i start another thread?

yea that sounds like a good idea.

ED to Stern.
But I’m scared of the fact that I might not get in:((

Aren’t we all. I’m EDing to Stern too.

Aren’t we all? I’m EDing to Stern too.

Yea we’re all feeling the same anxiety and fear =\
but I feel better knowing that others are feeling the same way.

photo major hopeful. possibly applying ED, and although it is my first choice, not sure if I have the funds required, so probably applying RD.
do they look at your GPA weighed or unweighted?

Gallatin ED! (i think i am the only one so far? hahahahaa)

Your a brave soul lol Isn’t that the hardest program to get into?

not that i’ve heard! from what i’ve read/talked to people that go to nyu about i heard that stern is the hardest stat wise, and tisch is hard because it is based on talent and portfolio. therefore rendering CAS, steinhardt, and gallatin about equal-ish i supposd. despite the fact that they each look for different things, as far as gallatin is concerned i believe they are more about the “independent” aspect because you essentially create your own major, so they want someone who can think for themselves and take the initiative to do so. (lenghty response much?) hahahaaa. :D

I’m not sure what evidence there is to say that “Tisch is more forgiving in terms of grades.” Applicants to Tisch have to meet NYU standards academically. The artistic review is an ADDITIONAL review these applicants go through.

Plenty of kids turn down Ivies to go to Tisch. For my D, NYU was a match academically for her, not a reach.

Tisch also looks for intellect, creativity, discipline and openness to training. Academic diligence and persistence is telling in this regard, and I’m sure that’s why they don’t relax the academic standards for these applicants.

gallatin ED for me too! :)

For audition/ portfolio programs, admission is based on 50% academics and 50% talent…so there is a slightly different academic standard than non-talent based program. That is not to say that there are not academic standards, but there is more leeway because of the talent criteria.

That 50 / 50 split means that the artistic review and the academics are given equal weight in the consideration. That has nothing to do with a “slightly different academic standard.” What you’re saying implies that academics are marked at 50% of what the other schools are, and that’s not the case!

Here’s a thread on the musical theater forum about this.

I am an international applicant, but I will be applying RD. I won’t be applying ED as I don’t want to restrict myself to NYU as I know about their minimal aid policy…

^ actually there’s no fin aid at all for international… too bad for us…

aww that sucks
