NYU Hopefuls 2015

i visited two weeks ago, and fell in love all over again. People say there isn’t really a campus but i see washington square park as the campus <3

Yeah I just went last FrIday and even though it was raining out, I absolutely loved it. I really cannot imagine going anywhere else. NYU can be a division 5 sports school for all I care XD

So say I apply for CAS (Journalism Major), but I get rejected but I get offered a place at LSP. Will I still be able to study Journalism? Or will I have to wait after the first 2 years??

^^^

I’d like to know the answer to that too.

I’d like to apply RD to CAS for Journalism, and I really like NYU, but I just don’t see this happening. It’s so hard to get into, and even so, I don’t know if I could afford it. I still want to apply, but it’s partly just to humor myself.

I had a hard time getting answers out of people at NYU about LSP. I am going into my first year at NYU as an LSP student. From what I understand, LSP is geared towards allowing you to major and minor. As a journalism major (something I considered), you are required to double major. I looked through all the classes, did some math and figured out how I might be able to do this, and I think it would be possible to double major in LSP but it would be very hard and require some sacrifices (like I wouldnt be able to study abroad twice like I intend to, once in LSP and once in CAS as I would be able to do with a major and minor).

In order to double major I’m pretty sure you would have to pick a major and be dedicated to it right from the start. That being said, a lot of people change their minds and majors, and journalism is a REALLY competative area. Everyone wants to be some kind of journalist or editor these days, and the money isnt always great. Its something that really interested me, and I may still try and go for it, but I’m also considering a few other options that may be a little more stable and land me in a position where I one day may make decent money (to pay back the $200,000 in loans I will be taking out to go to NYU).
I know there are options, such as spending a summer at NYU earning credits (although not all courses are offered, so you may not be able to earn needed credits) which costs a good chunk of money, even if you dont dorm (about $6000 to $7000, depending on credit load).

With all that said, if your not sure about journalism dont list it as your major, go in undecided because you’ll still have to take core classes if your in LSP (thats basically what LSP is) and you’ll have some time to figure it out and talk to advisors. If you are unsure about NYU, it never hurts to apply. I didnt make my college choice until April 28th (the decisions are all due May 1st), and after I got into Fordham under early action in December, I almost didnt apply to NYU. Good thing I did, because I now realize how happy I will be for the next four years at NYU, even if I’m not at CAS for all four.

If you have questions about LSP, please feel free to ask. I’m not an expert, but I’ve been through this process before and I would love to help out someone else going through the same thing.

There’s a few threads about LSP, even a really long one. They can answer all your question. Really, I swear haha I’ve seen them.
Now, about class of 2015, I really would be so upset if I don’t get in after visiting today. It was amazing.

2 more days!!!

I’m a little excited.

Never thought I’d be excited to start a college application more :P

NYU 2015 ftw

the supplement is up!!!
i didnt know they were changing ed to 2 deadlines. did anyone else?

for anyone who has read the supplement: how long should the essay type (personal statement) answers be??

@hullomate: Not entirely sure if this is correct, but I believe the limit is 500 words. Could be wrong, though.

Yeah, there’s two ED deadlines, one for Nov 1st and the other for Jan. 15th. I guess it’s new because it was never mentioned before.

I know of other schools that do this, but does anybody know if there is more of an advantage applying ED I over ED II?

^I’m wondering the same thing.

[Two Questions - Topic Powered by Social Strata](http://nyu.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/6934033161/m/347100398)

I hope this helps

I was at the tour and they mentioned the two ED dates. I think there isn’t an advantage, its all about the number of people who apply for each one. Also, maybe there’s a possibility you’ll get a regular acceptance for a school before you get your ED one for NYU, so that may be advantageous. (I just know because my brother applied RD to Rutgers U and submitted it in September and knew by October…so any rolling ro EA schools) But generally, they said they’re the same, but you have more time, so I feel like people applying ED might put off til the second one, or people originally planning to apply RD might consider the second ED to, for lack of better words, “get the process over with”. (my friend actually said that, lol)
But at the information sessions someone asked, and they just said both ED dates had an advantage over getting accepted the RD, but you only get one financial aid package with both ED’s.

That makes it seem like less people would be applying for the first one.
I think I’m goinh got the first one. I’ll know sooner and won’t have to worry about like 400 dollars in application fees (at least until i get my decision).

I’m really torn about when to apply. My mom will let me go wherever I want, but she’s pushing a state school (less money and safer environment). When we visited NYU, she was excited for awhile, after learning about campus security and how beautiful it was…but now she’s gone back. I seem to be a good match for nyu but I really want to apple ED just in case! Of course, having to decide once I’m accepted (which is fine for me=)) and financial aid is the issue with my mom. Ohh well, if I get accepted, I’ve made my decision already!
