First off, If you have to take out loans to afford the school, you can’t afford it. If your parents are having to take out loans, are they co-signing that over to you, or paying the cost? It sounds like UCSD is the more sensible choice. $400,000 for a bachelors degree at full pay just isn’t worth the money.
Second, college is a place to gain practical job skills above all else, otherwise it’s a colossal waste of money. “Liberal Studies” and “Humanities” aren’t generally marketable majors. Neither is film. Do you plan to get a teaching certificate? You may as well go to a community college and be a dental hygienist. You can make $120,000 a year in California right out of college with no debt. You’d be far better off doing something like that instead of spending big bucks on a bachelors degree and end up working at Safeway. That would be an all-too-common expensive tragedy.
