I love nyu but I feel like premed would be hard. I am accepted as Yalow scholar at hunter. I want to do premed but I also want a major that can act as backup which I wanted to be math. Nyu math is hard what should I choose.
You should choose NYU if it is free, and prepare to study and do well, if you want to advance in either of those fields. I do not know the Yalow scholar program at Hunter, but it sounds like that would be supportive as well, and I’m sure it could have good professional results if you excel. But for free, and especially if math is a possibility (as well as NYU medical), I would take advantage of NYU’s offer, and not expect college to be easy. I’m sure both institutions will offer different types of academic and student support if you feel it is necessary; I’d suggest investigating and availing yourself of whatever services and communities you feel may assist you during your college years. Congratulations-
As for my experience during college nyu alums were very helpful when I reached out and hunter doesn’t even pick up when I call and of course the prestige so I guess I know my choice. But honestly I like both schools for different reasons
I think it will be nyu and thank you for your input
You are welcome. It is important, I think, that NYU students made an effort to reach out to you. Even if the academic programs may be more rigorous, it is important for you to be in a place that feels supportive and “right” for you.
That’s why I loved nyu and everyone helps out if u seek help.
I would still suggest to you, during your years there, that if you do run into challenges with academics, etc., do continue to reach out to academic support services and other helpful services and communities. NYU can seem a little large and indifferent at first, but I believe the support and community is there if you show the initiative – don’t be shy about taking advantage of it.
Yes I will try and thank you BTW are u in college
I only wish I were still in college (aside from the costs these days).
Where did u go
A school of NYU’s selectivity doesn’t admit students by mistake. In fact, they turn down many, many qualified applicants. They chose you - it means you can make it if you do what you’re supposed to (do the readings and problem sets before class, listen and take notes while in class, go to office hours to ask questions about the readings/lectures/problem sets, participate in study groups, etc. - there’s a LOT more to college than just going to class; always factor in office hours and study group as if they were “regular” weekly hours for each class.) And for math, NYU is world-class.
Are you CSTEP or HEOP? If so, contact the HEOP adviser at NYU : you will be required to complete a 6-week summer program that’ll bring you up to speed so that you start the year on a level footing with the others. The summer program is ENTIRELY FREE if you got in. In addition, you’ll have access to special support and mentoring so that you can work at full potential. If they admitted you, you can succeed. You may not have had APs or classes like some other admitted students, but lack of opportunities in High School doesn’t mean lack of intelligence and resilience. You made it into NYU, one of the most desirable universities in the world. You belong there.
