@parent2001 Switching schools is easy at NYU. I can’t remember the process but i’ve read that it’s not hassle. It’ll only be difficult if there’s not much space in your desired school. I know that Stern usually doesn’t accept transfers from within NYU.
Cross school minors or double majors are super easy to facilitate at NYU. But if they feel as if your first major has a lot of core areas or is work-heavy, they may not suggest double majoring.
On the offers/yield: NYU has been saying it will take a larger part of the freshman class from the ED pool, and with a massive jump in the ED pool to over 14000 people this year, which likely gave them a very good choice of highly qualified applicants, I’m guessing they’ve done that. Those people are committed (or have declined if needed to because of FA) long before the RD offers are made, so I’m guessing that big the lower number of offers and the anticipated higher overall yield is because of a probably notably bigger # of ED students accepted.
@emcell people have reported before that it’s not actually that difficult to transfer from within NYU to stern if prerequisites are met, as long as there is space. It’s much more difficult to transfer into stern from another university because they give preference to internal transfers (this is stated somewhere on the stern website).
Hi guys! i got got accepted to NYU for this fall and am looking to do either a day on the square or a meet us on the square. I can’t find anything online about what the actual differences in experience are, so i was wondering if y’all could help me out? I know weekend on the square is the best, but i can’t make it next weekend.
We did a “Day on the Square” last year @budbudga - it’s Weekend on the Square with less fanfare and fun. You get the tour and big welcome session but you also get a program or college-specific info session, a Q&A with a faculty or admin member from your school and time to see various dorms. “Meet us” is the “Day” without the school-specific sessions. Try to do a Day on the Square if you can - the individualized sessions (my D’s was for Tisch) were really informative and it was nice to finally get some real information on what to expect, hear from students in the college (and not just in NYU) be able to ask program-specific questions. It’s a huge school so as much as it’s fun and impressive to hear about the whole University I think for admitted students the individualized school session(s) are more important.
thanks so much!
also! another question, how difficult is it to have your major be in one school and have your minor be in another? is that a thing? Like majoring is psychology but minoring in finance
@budbudga It’s not hard at all. It’s called a cross-school minor
will NYU be sending acceptance packages?
@catova - yes! But it takes them a while to get them out.
I got waitlisted to Steinhardt. Anyone knows how many people could get off from the waitlist each year?
@CaMom13 does nyu send acceptance packages to all admits or only domestic ones?
@mapar2019 , same here. Acceptance only says Tisch but not her specific program.
My daughter is deciding between NYU and Rutgers honors for CS. She has Rutgers admitted students day on Apr 13th which is the same day as NYU (two day event). We don;t want to miss both of them. Anyone else in the same situation? What are our options? I would really like to understand what both the schools can provide before she makes the final decision. Any help will be appreciated.
@parent2001 I think it’s really hard to compare NYU to Rutgers. I live in Utah, and NYU has a far better reputation nationally. That said, you really need to consider what each program offers, $$, and if she wants to be in a city or more in the suburbs. And mostly, where she sees herself.
@parent2001 is her NYU class info session on the 13th? Everything else on the day (unless it’s tandon women in stem) you can see on the 14th too, though of the course the academic info session is important.
Thank you everyone. Currenty, she has a session in"Tandon School of Engineering" for April 13th. Is anyone know similar session available for April14th? if so, then we can shoot for April 14th for NYU visit.
@parent2001 I am going to the one on April 19th, It’s called Tandon Day on the Square
When does NYU mail out acceptance packages?
Is there any Facebook, Discord, or Snapchat group for 2023ers?
