As an NYC mother who lives remarkably close to all these dorms–and who yet has a son about to go to Rubin–I can put everyone’s mind at ease: pretty much all these locations “can’t be beat!” In terms of the discussions re: Rubin vs. Third North, for example, Rubin is on 10th St and Fifth Ave., while 3N is Third Ave and 11th Street. That means they’re one street block and what, three avenue blocks apart? So while it’s true that in Manhattan every block can take on a character of its own, there still is no reason to worry–all of these locations are great in one way or another, and they’re all within walking distance (sometimes extremely close walking distance) to the school.

So don’t sweat it if someone is saying that the location of a different dorm is more desirable than yours…

haha unless you’re an upperclassman and end up at 26th Street…then yea, location can be kind of a sweaty thing

i, too, will make rubin awesome… as i will be living there. and there are many things that i am rather fond of about rubin.
- the location is amazing… come on! you can’t beat a fifth avenue address.
- no air conditioning. i know this is a turn-off for most, but for me, it’s a plus. i hate useless things like air conditioning that simply hurt the enviorment… plus, i’m from the deep south so i’ll be okay.
- the lobby. i know it’s small, but the lobby is so freaking cute. the tiled floors and such, it looks just like a lobby from an old hotel.

the no AC thing shouldn’t be a problem except for the first and last couple of weeks. So i’m excited, but who the heck is my roomate??

I lived there in '79-'80 and used to B.S. with Alec Baldwin on the third floor and on tar beach (on the roof) enjoy!
