<p>Does the NYU Roommate profile they have in the the housing application form delay the housing process in any way if you find a roommate like a month later? Will you be at less of a chance to get your first choice dorm if you only get a roommate later?</p>

<p>My understanding is that it does make a difference. I think NYU Housing looks at the time the last person in a roommate pairing (or suite situation even?) submits the application. It appears that the earlier all parties involved submit their applications the better. So, it is best to get both roommates’ applications completed and submitted close together in time and asap.</p>
<p>Last year prior to freshman year, I remember based on housing policy mentioned to me by sonny, I had to remind him to get his chosen roommate’s application in asap (since sonny’s was submitted early). With his nudging, his roommate got his in days after sonny’s. They both got their first choice, Founders. I am not even sure if the following is related at all. They also got one of the high floor suites. This last comment is just a casual observation on my part because room/ suite assignments within a particular dorm can be totally random for all we know.</p>
<p>Was the housing deposit sent at the same time that the application was completed?</p>
<p>Last year we had both a $500 HOUSING DEPOSIT (due with the enrollment fee of $300 by 5/1/10), AND a HOUSING RESERVATION FEE OF $1000 due 6/1/10 (from memory).</p>
<p>The online Housing Application was not available until after the 5/1/10 deadline for the Housing Deposit and Enrollment Fees. Now from memory, I think the online H. App became available after 5/1/10 but prior to the Housing Reservation Fee deadline of 6/1/10. For RD applicants.</p>
<p>I am not sure what exactly is involved now since NYU might have made it one Housing Deposit fee this year. I am not sure when that is due. If it is shortly after your commitment to enroll in NYU, then the online H. App should be available after the Housing Deposit is due. This is purely my guess because the Housing fee policy has changed for Freshman class of 2011-2012.</p>

<p>The Housing Application has a section which is optional that allows you to look for a roommate by letting NYU circulate your profile (that is also part of the Housing Application) and email and letting students get in touch with one another. If you do not do this NYU will assign you a room mate presumably reviewing each ones profile for compatibility.</p>
<p>So my question is, for those that do not have a room mate choice at inception, and want to get into their first choice dorm, is it better to let NYU do the roommate assignment to insure an early shot at a popular freshman dorm like Founders Hall or Hayden? Its unclear to me if checking the section allowing communication with other freshman delays your point in line for the Housing pool till you complete the process with another student agreeing to be your roommate.</p>
