The BFA of NYU Steinhardt, Department of Art and Art Professions, asks for a “one-page artist’s statement.” However, there isn’t any mention of the margins, font style, or font size. The text box provided has a 10000 character limit, but even though my artist statement is about 1.5 pages, the character count is only around 5000 characters. Does that mean I should write more, or should I start cutting down my statement to fit one page?
D is a senior in the program. I would not worry about the length of the statement as long as it fits the character count. Just a heads up that they will be looking for creativity in your work and a theme. They do not want your work to look like a string of assigned high school projects. It is a contemporary conceptually based program. For an idea of student work look at this page:

Feel free to ask any questions. D lives the program. The opportunities have been amazing! Good luck!
