NYU Stern Chancies

Hey Guys,

In light of the Oct 4 essays being released, as well as my applications coming to a close - i’d appreciate it if you guys chanced me for a bit.

I’m EDing to Stern for 2013… in my eyes, my admission can be a mix-up. Scores are telling me otherwise - I want my ECs to be the dealbreaker, but at the rate of my scores, i’m thinking i’m beginning to run out of luck.

A superscored SAT gives me a 620 CR / 660 M / 770 Writing (if they end up taking the highest of essays (11)/MCs (80-0-0) for writing… then an 800 is a huge jump)

In short, based on this stack-up, I fall somewhere between 2050-2080 (depending on how they superscore).

SAT IIs were extremely lackluster - I took two of them in one sitting and scored in the same range. I had a 560 Math I (ugly score), and a 600 History (uglier).

GPA of a 3.54 as of Junior year… I believe somewhere in the top 15%, as the top 10% cuts off at 3.6.

As for ECs (this could in my eyes, be a deal breaker… but I need reassurance)…

I’ve started a few internet ventures with a few partners across the East Coast to supplement the “media group” status - designs were drawn, databases were laid down - but the start-up ultimately collapsed due to a lack of sufficient capital. This was my first “entrepreneurial endeavor”.

As a result of that, I decided to run an indie media group as well as a streetwear collective in my free time (to raise capital for the media group - ideas are exciting, but ultimately consuming… thereby taking a toll on my work at times).

The streetwear collective seems to be taking off in directions that i’ve never even dreamed of. What started as a sketch in my notebook turned into a promotional tool for recording artists from NYC to Toronto. I have modeling agencies on the ‘wait list’, as well as a few upcoming MCs (namely, Cause from NY).

I started freelance and consultant work in my junior high school years for local design firms and small businesses. My largest project included a published ad for Lambo + Asus (ASUS VX2).

I maintain a blog reporting on news in tech, personal opinions on school matters, and design inspiration. [waynesun’s new internet home](http://www.waynesun.com) gets it!

These are the ECs that I believe stand out the most to me. Those are the ones I feel most passionate about - the ones that read like activities, but actually don’t feel like work.

In addition to the above (i’ll take up little space for these), I was on varsity swimming for 3 years (swimming for six on club teams prior to the break) , model UN programs at both the local and national level for 1 (took a break from swimming to build up other parts of myself), Violin since I was 5, state + regional orchestras, and a BUNCH of charity work that I take part in when i’ve got the time. (I genuinely do charity work at least every weekend… there’s a reason for this, a reason which my essay goes into more detail on).

My essay is coming along nicely. I like writing, so I see the essay being more of a tool than a nuisance. My main concern lies in my scores - I know they’re not too strong, but they’ll get me a consideration from the board. In my eyes, the scale is at a 60/40 in favor of a rejection. I live in an Asian-American household, so i’ve already been given rough times for my scores already.

So, with all the stuff in mind (I hope I didn’t bore you), can a brother get a chance?

Thanks in advance. :).
