Hi all,
NYU rising junior here, philosophy major, want-to-be premed. I’m struggling a little at NYU and considering a transfer for several goals:
• Easier classes → better chance of doing premed classes successfully
• Easier classes → can balance work and school
• Less competition → better chance at getting into med school
• Rural location → chance to work in EMS
• Community (which NYU does not have)
• More salt-of-the-earth culture (NYU feels pretentious and too full of rich kids for me)
• Less stressful lifestyle
I’m taking a lightload and possibly a gap semester so I would be applying for transfer as a repeat junior.
These are some of the schools I’m considering:
• Ole Miss
• UAH/UAB
• Vanderbilt
• Duke (probably harder than NYU → bad choice)

Do these sound like potentially good choices for me? Any insider info on these schools? Am I correct that premed classes will be easier than at NYU?

Is it a crazy idea to leave NYU? I’m a good student (got into CMU and Duke also) and have a whole life here (great job at the hospital, research experience, mentors and close professors). I’m from NYC and have always lived here.
Thanks for any thoughts!
