NYU Summer Film Program

I was just accepted to an NYU Summer Film Program for high school students. Can anyone give me info about the program and if it will help me when I apply to NYU for college next year (I’m currently a junior)

hey, I got in to. I’ll see you this summer! Where are you from?

I’m from Long Island, NY. What movies did you pick to write about?

I did Schindler’s list, Singin’ in the rain, Modern Times, Lord of the rings and Lawrence of Arabia. I’m from Idaho so it will be really different for me to come to NYC. What’d you write on?

The movies I picked were 25th Hour, American History X, Adaptation, Pulp Fiction, and The Matrix Trilogy. Were you surprised when you got in cause all I thought was, “Wow, those idiots actually picked me.” Just kidding, but I was kinda surprised.

Have you ever been to NYC?

I was kind of. I wasn’t really sure how they were picking people and since i live in the middle of nowhere and have less film experience I didn’t know how they’d view that. I was in NYC a few years ago but don’t remember it so…
What’s you name though, at least I’ll no someone when I get there!
Do you know how many people applied this year for the film program?

My name’s Zach, what’s your’s?

I think the writing was the biggest thing of how they picked it. If you write about the movies with enough passion I think they noticed that.

I know that to all the programs about 600 applied. They accept around 50 something to film so I figured out that about 130 applied to film, but I could be very wrong.

My name’s Acacia. And yea, I’ve heard that the essays were the main deciding factor. So do they just divide us into groups and we work on group films, do you really know how any of it works? I’m excited to get the package to find out exactly what we’re doing.

This is a stupid question, but has the deadline for this program passed?

I’m not really sure how it works, but I am visiting the school tomorrow. I should find out about how things work there.

The deadline did pass, sorry.

Also, do you know when we get the package with all the info.

(By the way, Idaho isn’t in the middle of nowhere. My U.S. History teacher claims it’s this college called Grinell in Iowa. He rambles on daily how it’s the best college in the middle of nowehere, America.)

I think we get the package some time next week, maybe earlier for you though since you live close. After you visit I’d love to hear what you found out.

It will definitely help you. I know someone who went to the camp and now is enrolled in Tisch Film - a very high percentage of the kids who attend do get into Tisch.

Thank you IheartNY08. It’ll be nice to get to know the professors and everything to.

I think my essays are really what helped my admissions. Anywho-- BKiddo, i live on LI too, where do you live? sn: icedkiwis

I live in Plainview, how about you? I also thnk my essays helped a lot. What movies did you pick?

Awesome. I live in Locust Valley. Well, I’m doing the dramatic writing and I’m more into theater, so I chose a few plays instead.

I went to the program last year (for film) and will be attending as a freshman next year. Actually, I think over 250 people apply for the 50 spots. I remember them telling us that its almost as hard to get into the summer program as it is for the regular school.

Enjoy. Say hi to Rick for me.

Hey, this is a friend of the normal user, and I have permission to use his account namely due to the fact I’m too lazy to create my own.

Anyway, just a quick question, how do you apply to the summer program? What specific articles do you have to submit for consideration?

I’m a prospective film major, and although I’m only a sophomore, I really want to build a strong resume as quickly as possible.

I know the deadline for this year’s program has ended, but I am looking forward to participating in next year’s summer program.

Thanks for your time.

I applied online through NYU’S website. If you search NYU Summer Film Program on google you should be able to find it.

The dealine this year was in March. What I sent in was a transcript, two reccomendations, a video with some of my film work, essays and analysis of 5 films.
