NYU Summer Read Middlesex

I just finnished reading Middlesex, the book that the incoming freshman are suppose to read. I was wondering if anyone read it and what their thoughts were. It won a pulitzer prize. I was intrigued that it had everything in it like sex, travel, secrets, incest. But did you think it delivered?

I just got an ebook for it. I shall reading today hopefully!

ehh, I thought it was alright. I too was very excited to start reading because of what everyone said about the book, and maybe my expectations were too high. Most of the book was pretty engaging (I liked the plot twists and realizations and stuff), but I was kind of disappointed by the ending. After making it through the 500+ pages, I was expecting some sort of a crazy epic ending to wrap it all up, and that didn’t quite happen.

I agree with daria…a little too much hype for a books is bound to leave one a tad disappointed…kinda empererors new clothes. Least it was a decently quick read. I prefer modern trash fiction over the “classics” anyday

I am anticipating being a a party a couple of years from now and someone saying “Yah I had a friend of a friend’s uncle who’s sister was a hermaphrodite…the family came from Greece”

And everyone saying at the same time…“you d*ck, that’s the book Middlesex!”

I was disappointed with the ending. With all the DNA formulas swirling thru the generations, I was waiting for some sort of an epiphany or life lesson to be learned. Many questipns unanswered.
