Oh @dramamamaCC - I’m so impressed your D still cares about her grades. After 3.5 years of sweating every test mine is just DONE… and her current grades show it. No Ds, No Fs and No Felonies = they won’t rescind an acceptance, right??? Kids showed up to study for Physics last night and all they did was laugh about Prom stories - I think the whole Senior class is just ready for summer.
Just a friendly word from an AP teacher (me!). Senior kids sometimes blow off that last round of AP exams in May - which makes me CRAZY as they are statistically most like to score on them (if they have previous AP experience). They may not see it at the moment - but those AP credits can be a SOLID benefit later. I nagged my keep up the pace (which she was really doing anyway) and she scored on 4 tests her senior year… which made some NICE room in her schedule - in fact, she hasn’t had to take any “academic”classes during her senior year at NYU - and in this final semester has been studio only, so she has classes 3 days a week, and has been able to use the other days for auditions, job hunting etc
@toowonderful - Very good advice. I will bring this up to my S.
@CaMom13 @toowonderful As it turned out, I’m extra glad we stayed home, as she came home sick yesterday and stayed home today as well due to a raging virus. However, she did haul herself off to the doctor for a strep test and scored the valuable “may return to school when able” note, so both days will be excused. She has less than 4 weeks left, so at this point it’s all gutting through it, and I’m just going along with what she wants to do. She just came down and said, “OK, I feel pretty good about the Astronomy test tomorrow, but here’s the thing. It’s MT presentation day for this semester’s Drama Theater Arts class, and not only do I get to go watch for my two music classes, but all the seniors from last semester are excused for an “in school field trip” to run lights. Is it terrible if I skip AP stats to run lights so I can catch up on stats a little more over the weekend?”
I told her to go for it…
Love it, @dramamamaCC! And good luck to her on AP Stats!!!
I have a question for any California parents who have Kaiser. Were you able to waive NYU’s health care and keep Kaiser for your child? I hate to pay double for insurance for her when money is already tight.
@2ndGradeTeacher - next year we are planning on waiving the NYU health care coverage and we have Kaiser. NYU has a general health service for all students but requires minimum health care coverage to waive the health plan - I can’t imagine that any HMO doesn’t qualify. Kaiser will cover emergency care in other states (you just need the kids to schedule routine visits when they are home). So I think you’re good.
Thanks - we will fill out the waiver!
Okay @2ndGradeTeacher - you’re making me a little nervous - we haven’t filled out any paperwork for NYU, we only paid the deposit. Did they send you forms or were we supposed to download something?
@CaMom13 There is a next steps page where the forms required are listed: nyu.edu/students/health-and-wellness/student-health-center/next-stop-health-requirements/health-requirements.html

You are fine. I am just looking ahead at the summer deadlines.
Does anyone know when you find out studio placement? I’m an accepted transfer student
I got an email about mine. I think by now, you could probably call and ask?
Really nice article about three Tony nominees (and one winner!) from the inaugural class of Tisch’s New Studio on Broadway: http://www.alumni.nyu.edu/s/1068/alumni/interior_3col.aspx?sid=1068&gid=1&pgid=18593&cid=32752&ecid=32752&crid=0
Bumping this thread as NYU studio assignments come out soon! Lots of good info and one classic joke on the first page.
@CaMom13 Thanks for bumping this thread! Hoping to connect with others in the class of 2023. If anyone is headed to Weekend on the Square, I’m sure my daughter would love to meet up.
D is part of a GroupMe Tisch Drama group, and she said someone indicated studio placements would not be out until May. Is that usual? We were expecting the placement this week-
@yellahamma I would bet my house that they will come out this week. They always come out two weeks after the decisions are released and there’s NO way they would wait for May as the decision date is May 1. Lotta misinformation out there…
Thanks, @CaMom13
