Hi,
Does anyone have a comprehensive comparison of the NYU Tisch School vs the USC both for film production.
I don’t have a comprehensive comparison, but I do have a kid at tisch. You need to decide between a New York or an LA vibe…
It’s not exactly comprehensive, but USC has a reputation for being the place you go if you want to be involved in Hollywood-type entertainment, while NYU is where you go if you want to do things like documentaries.
Another thing you may want to check out is who owns the rights to materials produced via the film programs.
Some schools retain all rights, which could inhibit a student/artist right to distribute something they’ve made that has commercial potential. Students are almost always allowed to use footage in sample reels.
USC does have more of an emphasis on narrative film production, while NYU tends to be more artistic and documentary focused. Remember that each program is influenced by the professors who currently teach (part or full time) and that sometimes a schools’ reputation is based on professors who are no longer there.
Checking out the faculty profiles at both schools will be very revealing.
