NYU Tisch, Wesleyan, Columbia U, Vassar, USC Film?

<p>I am a junior, and my guidance office is not great… I know I want to go into film, and I just wanted to know how I look for these schools: NYU Tisch, Wesleyan, Columbia U, Vassar, and USC, if anyone has first-hand knowledge or just has info from around :smiley: I am shooting to get into the film/film studies programs (with maybe a double major in political science). Here is what I have done so far:</p>

<p>ECs: Film Crew, debate team (captain next year), Writing Club/Poetry Slam, Guidance Honors Association, Secretary of Gay-Straight Alliance, and manager of African Aid Association (and next year may be accepted into the National Honors Society and World Language Honors Society).
My extra-curriculars are my life, and I enjoy them all so much! (I don’t do them because they “look good”.)</p>

<p>Sports (not really necessary to add, but…): I played Softball and Volleyball in Freshman year. </p>

<p>Volunteer: I have over 200 volunteer hours so far
Summer (also not sure about adding this but just in case…): I am going to debate camp in Boston and I am assistant editing a full-length, professional documentary to enter into film festivals. I am also building my film portfolio.</p>

<p>Recommendations: I am counting on great recommendations because I have teachers who have already offered them to me. </p>

<p>Extra stuff: I might be going to France for a week next year to participate in an exchange program my school has. I am career shadowing a retired screenwriter, and I work at the local library as a page. </p>

<p>Tests: I took the PSAT and PLAN tests. I am hoping to count on ACTs (but still send my SATs) for my test. I got around an 1890 on a practice SAT recently and a 28 on a practice ACT (but I did not know that I should bubble in all questions on the ACT, and the proctor I talked to after said I would prob go up at least one point next time by doing that.)</p>

<p>How do I look for film for these schools? What should I improve? Should I continue Orchestra or insert more APs senior year? How many APs should I take? If you have ANYTHING else, suggestions-wise, that would be great! Again, I don’t get toooo much guidance… thanks again!!! :D</p>

<p>The first thing to do is relax; if you are a rising senior, there’s not a lot you can do now to increase your chances of admission to these schools. The film programs at Tisch, Wesleyan and USC, especially, are among the most competitive in the country. Consider taking the ACT if your SATs turn out to be too low or too lopsided. And, investigate some safeties.</p>

<p>Hey, you forgot UCLA!! Fantastic film program there, and there’s a masters’ program in composition for visual media now, so you have composers you can collaborate with (not unlike USC and NYU). And Los Angeles is the hub of film.
Your profile looks excellent to me! BTW I am told by my filmmaker friend that UC Santa Cruz has an excellent film and TV program also.</p>
