NYU vs UMass Amherst???

This is probably a really dumb question, but…which of the two should I pick? I’d have to take out $30k a year in loans at NYU and pay the full in-state sticker price ($28k) with loans at UMass, since they didn’t give me any financial aid.

I’m majoring in Public Health and Film Studies/Production, and plan on going to med school if I can get in. I might be taking a gap year between undergrad and med school, I’m not sure yet. My fallback is either an MPH or working in the film industry after getting my bachelor’s.

Frankly, either one sounds risky with $120k in loans and a very variable future / med school ahead - are there any other options in play?

For the record, this isn’t a stupid question at all! I think with price equal, most would agree that NYU is your best bet - it has a great film program and will serve premed just as well as any other school really. I also personally prefer NYC, but considering your fit is important too.

I’d go with Umass. It is a great school and much lower in price than NYU.
