NYU Waitlist 2023

@emcell but if they r not turned down, it is closed?

I’m kind of confused by the whole not-ranked waitlist situation at NYU. What does it actually mean to not be ranked? The kids who got in the first wave should be better applicants than the ones who weren’t, so with each consecutive wave, would they really review the entire pool again and again? Or have a designed list to go down with each round of acceptances?

@SJ2727 Did your daughter have a city written in her acceptance letter indicating she would be expected to study her first year there? When my daughter goes to Accept the offer, the Academic Program says Global Liberal Studies Program but her acceptance letter says Liberal Studies Core Program. Also, it says her Degree is for a BA but this should depend on where she ultimately chooses to transfer. Did your daughter’s Accept page look like that? We will call in the morning but we’re so confused right now.

@whitestripes I actually just wanted to ask the same question to you that I posted above. Please let me know if your son’s Accept page looked like that.

Admitted to Steinhardt today!! $37,750 aid award

@collegepete343 my understanding of “not ranked” means it’s not necessarily the academics they look at primarily + it might be, but it might also be that they need another person from demographic x (gender, minority, first gen, athlete, whatever) to attain the desired class make up. I didn’t see this about NYU specifically, but there was a discussion a while back in a general forum - it seems most colleges have unranked waitlists.

Just got off the waitlist for Steinhardt MCC! But I have to spend a semester in Paris starting in January 2020. Bit of a weird offer but I’m so excited!!

@chakahmeat , yes about the city. Liberal studies core is housed within the GLS school, so maybe that’s why it said that. I never saw what the “accept” page looked like, sorry… my daughter clicked that  She got in ED1 so that was 6 months ago now, I doubt she will remember details…
They didn’t mention degree type in my daughter’s letter, just said “Upon completing the Core Program, you may continue in the Global Liberal Studies Program, declare a major in the College of Arts and Science, or transition to one of seven other schools at NYU.” Edit: I see you were talking about the accept page here too. I’m guessing that’s because if you declare a stem major you’ll get a BS?

Accepted today 4 pm and so excited !!! Life is crazy

Anyone off waitlist from CAS?
One of my friend applied to CAS and was waitlisted. In the waitlist form, she said she did not want to be considered for other majors or programs. But she went off waitlist at LSP. Interesting case…

What were her stats tho? @Kangchenjunga

Anyone from Tisch drama heard?

@SJ2727 Thank you for that piece from your letter because I totally forgot about that part which further confirms she was accepted to LS and not Global LS. I think they just worded the Accept page confusingly: says Global LS - Core. As for the “BA”, I guess they’re just generalizing as most Liberal Arts programs lead there. FYI, her letter’s city is blank! After asking about that, she received a correction email acknowledging their error so they would allow her to choose between Florence and NYC. They must be reeeally busy these days!

@invban10 I only remember her SAT…I believe it’s 1480.

I was reading college confidential NYU waitlist blogs from last two years
Tisch and college of nursing released students off the waitlist much earlier than others ( according to 2017 and 2018)
Every wave takes off 25-35 maybe 40 students
I am so concerned about Tisch only 1or 2 students have been offered admission until now who were on waitlist

Anyone have any idea on what the deal is with Galatin & Tandon students? I completed the continued interest form just like anyone else

My daughter is also WL Tisch drama. I think they are later this year due to the fact that they waited until after the May 1st commit date to assign studio placement. In past years, students who did not like their studio offer may have chosen a different BFA. This year they had to commit not knowing the studio. I’m afraid that will also mean fewer spots for WL students than in the past.

@apb3415 u may be right on a larger scale. But I have a few friends who didn’t commit bc they felt more secure going to a program where they knew the curriculum than not being certain of their studio at Tisch

I agree with sel18 it can go either way
One girl in my daughter’s school got in NYU ED 1 I asked her yesterday she has not been assigned a studio yet
Tisch is moving pretty slowly this year
Some kids were admitted at USC yesterday after their appeals process
I am hoping it will open spots at Tisch

@almamommy you can’t compare waitlist numbers to previous years, each year differs by how much they need to use the waitlist. This year they have more ED admits but also fewer RD ones than previous years.
