But transfers shouldn’t really affect the Freshman class right? Or would they because they’re all in the same studios?
Hi! I’m new to the forum, but I’ve been following this thread since April. I applied EDII for Film and Television and was waitlisted. Did anyone receive any news from Tisch, and more particularly from the Film Department? Thanks!
My dad and I called Tisch the other day and spoke to an admission counselor, not a student ambassador, and they said all schools within Tisch were at max capacity and we would get an email in June that either says the waitlist is closed to you or we want to keep you on. But then someone called right after I did and the person they spoke to said they hadn’t heard all schools were at max. So we’ll just have to wait and see.
@AllyM23 - I think the info from the admissions counselor is probably reliable. The letter NYU posted online a few days ago was the same one they posted last year in June when essentially all waitlist offers were done and they weren’t extending any more offers. Stuff can happen over the summer but it’ll be bits and pieces - one spot will open up here and there. I hate to say “abandon hope” for everyone on the WL but I would definitely recommend at this point that incoming freshman stop waiting around for NYU and start to work on loving the school they committed to.
Probably. Although the director of admissions for my department said they are still going through the waitlist applications. It’s all confusing.
Thank you for letting me know! Hopefully we’ll all know soon
@CaMom13 what letter, can you link it? Also, I do think it’s a bit early for them to close it since waitlists for other schools are still open; plus, NYU is a rather expensive school, so maybe yield rates were very low to the point where they need a lot of time to go through all the applications. It’s far fetched but its a possibility.
this is the letter: https://www.nyu.edu/admissions/undergraduate-admissions/waitlist-update.html
@RAYRACCOON - it’s possible but given the fact that NYU admissions has issued the letter (above) saying the majority of WL offers had been extended and they’ve issued it even earlier this year than they did last year, I think its very unlikely that they had an unexpectedly low yield from May 1 decisions.
@RAYRACCOON “Also, I do think it’s a bit early for them to close it since waitlists for other schools are still open;”
many waitlists are closed and some schools (like george washington) didn’t even go to waitlist this year. There is a thread on waitlists in the ‘admissions’ forum.
I talked to a student ambassador yesterday afternoon and explained about the letter stating that the majority offers off of the waitlist have been made
He said that the admissions counselors are still busy at work and even though majority offers have been made no department is full and most probably few more offers will continue in the coming weeks by the end of June
By the way many waitlists are still active namely Berkley, UCLA, Boston College, U of M, Emerson, etc
Even Harvard admitted someone two days back
My advice would be keep faith some more students will definitely be accepted in the coming weeks
Screw this. The worst part about being on the waitlist is obviously the waiting, but I can’t believe NYU won’t bother to make a little less horrible for us. I’ve been in a constant state of anxiety, anticipation, and hopeless aspirations for the past month. If they can’t be just as a little bit clear to us about what’s truly going on with the waitlist, then shame on them. Shame on them for waitlisting thousands of more applicants than they’ll ever need and torturing them for months. I get that there’s not much they can say about our chances because of the unpredictable nature of accepted students, but NYU could make the process so much less stressful by releasing some direct information. Just so we know our chances of being rejected better. Most schools are like this, yes, but is there really no better way to approach this mess that is the waitlist?
They have been as clear as they can be at this stage, by publishing the release on the website. That information seems to be getting confused here by various anecdotes, but it was pretty clear that most of the waitlist admits have happened. Sure it’s not all and you can hold out hope, because there almost certainly will be a few more, but it’s best to take the most realistic path.
Yeah - I don’t want to be unsympathetic but NYU has been very transparent. Decisions for their 6,500 freshman slots came through 3 weeks ago and in the last 3 weeks they’ve made 350 waitlist offers which is the majority of the WL offers they expect to extend. Anything else is hearsay.
Here I go again, trying to read too much into portal changes, but today my DD checklist is reappeared on the portal along with a copy of her acceptance to stay on the waitlist dated 5/3 (which has never been displayed before). Anxiety is now at level 10.
There was a lot of movement today with transfer admit decisions ( see transfer waitlist blog) - portal went blank and then loads of rejections - feeling bad for them, but at least we know they are still moving through the process
@wondering2233 Same here!! Don’t think it means anything but still incredibly nervous anyway ?
I am almost hopeless now. I applied to FIlm&Television, and I know this is one of the most popular majors in Tisch/NYU. It is almost impossible to get off the waitlist.
@bRoThErSiNtHeLiFe I agree! NYU has not been totally transparent with their intentions, playing the numbers game to manipulate stats which affects its ranking… while we wait! The published update said ‘majority’ (350) of our falls offers have gone out (I get it, chances are slim now) but then it also stated that WL is not closed yet. haha So keep waiting!!
Just curious - Was this thread created for students on the NYU WL or moms of students on WL?! I was under the impression I’m sharing and responding to my peers of 17 or 18 year old HS students - But, reading some of the condescending comments from moms though… ugh
I’ll give them another week, then I’m done waiting… Good luck everyone!!
@PHS2019, CC is open to both students and parents of students to post (dads post too, by the way). And yes, parents tend to have a different perspective. We’re used to the fact that we annoy our teenagers though, so it’s ok.
