NYU waitlist 2024 (class 2028)

Starting a thread for nyu waitlisted. Can we update this thread when decisions come out, or any “tells” on the portal? I have heard in past years, checklists would disappear or the housing would update before waitlist acceptance.
Also I heard that the first wave of waitlist admissions starts in very early May….and that it is usually need-aware. Any insight?

I have experienced many waitlists. It is safe to assume that getting off waitlist is very difficult if not impossible on most occasions. FA is a major factor in getting off waitlist. All students that I know who got off the waitlists did not need FA. I hope the best for you but it is also very important to have realistic expectations.

At nyu specifically?

I was Waitlisted for Stern during the EDII round. I don’t have many acceptances. So getting off this waitlist would be a blessing. I know it’s tough but it’s not impossible…

I saw last 2 years…there were a decent amount of nyu waitlist acceptances. I assume this is because NYU is expensive…so not everyone accepted can go, or decline for an equally good program elsewhere.

Though they also said the waitlist is usually not need blind, so very little assistance offered…are you hoping for FA?

I did apply for aid but was not expecting any FA to begin with so I would assume that I would be considered full pay.

Hey Guys, i just got waitlisted for Nutrition and dietetics at steinhardt. No FA so realistically what are my chances of getting in ?

This is totally conjecture, but in past year threads the below seem to be determining factors:

  1. were you ED1/ED2/RD? Some say that ED has slightly higher likelihood, though I saw a lot of RD candidates on here get off as well. So not sure how big of on an impact this actually has.
  2. Ivy Coach said ~320 got off in past years, again this is conjecture as NYU neither posts the size of their waitlist nor the yield from it.
  3. Past threads mention not needing FA as a factor.

NYU doesn’t really post any waitlist info and it changes by year.

does anyone know if the updates stuff in the waitlist form should be point form or paragraph? i figured probably point form but i don’t want to seem too informal lol

I did an informal one for the form because I didn’t want to write something only to trim it down for word count. But I may send a formal one soon that dives more into details.

Last year ppl said they updated in the form…, but informal is fine. Those that got off even said they didn’t write anything in form. It seems that admissions might have already reviewed our apps…and they really dont care about the form at this point.

Nyu accepted 10k…of 100k+ in applicants…and if they accepted 12k…we would have made it. So everyone has already been deemed worthy. It is just a numbers game now.

wait so there were only 2000 waitlisted? did they release their waitlist numbers? i checked their common data set from last year and i didnt see anything on there

No idea! Last time they published in 2017 it was 2,900.

I read an article last year that < 15% of applicants were waitlisted. This is more than ten thousand students. Here is the excerpt:

According to Williams, NYU’s waitlist comprises less than 15% of its applicant pool, and it is not ranked. Waitlisted applicants should not send any additional information beyond what is requested on the waitlist response form.

I don’t know how many will get off the WL. As far as I know, admission to NYU is handled by each school, some schools may have higher WL movements than others.

If you need FA, chances are low to get off the WL regardless of your credentials. This applies to practically every private college in America.

Not fair, in my opinion, in many regards.

oof…that’s not great news…

They basically WL as many as they accepted!

Guys, any of you can register for the summer housing program?. When I clicked on it, it showed the whole form and process on the screen and I could even register and received an email about confirmation.

yes. everyone can.

got my hopes up for ntg. Which school have you applied for?

CAS (math/econ). you?
