Anybody know how big the waitlist typically is? And how many they accept from it? Thanks!

No one knows this. It’s not published.

Some Relevant WL Info & Myths to Dispel:

  • TLDR: WL admit in May; offered generous FA; don’t knock being a spring admit; LS Core; no LOCI/did not update application other than accepting spot on WL

  • Admitted from WL on 5/19/23 as spring admit into the LS Core program (2nd choice major); pre-health/med-school track; will enter CAS once he transitions out of LSC next year

  • GPA: 4.31; did not submit test scores; CA resident; 8 APs; minimal ECs; not first gen.

  • Despite what seemingly everyone seems to believe, NYU does offer excellent financial to waitlisted students. NYU generously awarded him $50k in annual renewable scholarship funds, which covers nearly all of his tuition! We were floored when we got the news, and he readily rescinded his plan to attend USC. (Middle income @ roughly $160k)

  • Though my evidence is anecdotal, NYU clearly ranks its WL and/or offers FA as an incentive, as I noted others with lower incomes who were not awarded such generous aid.

  • The majority of admitted WL students were offered spring admission, but not all.

  • While a spring start was not his original plan, it really worked out fantastically. He was able to breathe a bit in the fall while taking a couple classes he got approved through NYU at our local community college, allowing him to get ahead on some GEs & save $$.

  • Despite starting in January, NYU offered a TON of orientation socializing, and he is thriving in Manhattan. His entire dorm wing consists of spring admits, so he didn’t have to try and find a place among already established social groups from fall admits. (This was, honestly, HUGE)

  • Required 10 week summer session just for spring admits, so they end up on track to graduate at the same time as their fall admit peers.

Hope this info helps some of you & best of luck to you all.

Hey! I got waitlisted from stern BPE

For the waitlist form, did you guys write a lot? I’m afraid I’ve written too much. I want to be considered for three schools so I’m just explaining why…but it’s pretty long😭Not sure if it matters what do you guys think?

How many words?

About 850😀

So you wrote 200 words more than your personal essay? Can’t say you weren’t thorough. Hopefully it will all work out. :crossed_fingers:

Exactly it’s longer than my personal statement, which is why I haven’t submitted. It sounds bad but I have to explain my interest in three diff colleges. So they’re more separated rather than one long essay if that makes sense

Also we only need to submit out final transcript not third marking period grades right?

Yes just final transcript, I don’t think length matters. I really don’t think there’s a formula to the waitlist game, I think the only rule of thumb is to not annoy them basically.

I wrote a total of three letters

Ohh😭
What school did you apply to?

I applied to CAS for ED1 and got waitlisted back in December so I’ve had a lot of things to talk about

Hey, quick question! Let’s say I get admitted off the waitlist at Stern for the spring semester. I have a summer job that I’m contracted to do. Is it possible not to take summer classes?

Thanks good luck everyone!!!
