O HAI! Chances for medill?

…So I kept swearing I would never make a chances thread. I’m a long-time lurkerrrrr and this will likely be the only thread I make.

Something I wanted to say before I begin. If it wasn’t for math, I’d have a 4.0. I’m a complete right-brainer…writer above all else.

ECS:
The Big One is that I’m the Student Representative on my local school board. I’m a voting member, so I have a say in things like budget, curriculum, all that. Working on a county-wide journalism initiative. As far as I know, relatively few SMOBS in the country have voting rights.
With that job also comes executive leadership positions on my County Student Council board and the State Student Council board.

I also have a job with the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy as one of 13 teens on their Youth Leadership Team - sort of a representative to all teens, if you will. I work on writing for the site, and will be at a panel on Capitol Hill this spring.

Thanks for all your time. I know my SAT Math suckkssss but I’m hoping I have a shot. BTW, I’m RD. NU is my numba one choiceee.

strong writing credentials. I think you just might get into Medill, not sure about WCAS though. why didn’t you apply ED?

I bet you’ll get into Medill. IDK why ^ commented on WCAS tho, as she clearly stated she is applying to Medill.

Once again the question is whether your EC’s can overcome an SAT that is well below normal non-hooked admission standards. There are very, very few non-hooked students in any of the top university/liberal arts schools. The best advice is to take a review course and raise the score if there is still time. If you can’t get above a 600 with a review course you may find work at NU over your head.

I meant to say there are very few non-hooked students at top schools with a math score that low. You can look at the admission data and see that less than 10-15% of students get in with that score and almost all are hooked in some way.

Yeah, that’s certainly true. Thanks for all the help! :D

I’m hoping that my hook- strong writer involved in public policy- can manage to offset the score. Well, we’ll see in Jan if it goes up at all.

And I didn’t apply ED due to financial reasons, I applied EA to UNC Chapel Hill and UMD.

A math score above 650 would give you a reasonable chance and at 700 you would be in good shape.

out of curiosity, are you a counselor? I’m just curious :O

because when I visited NU, and when I talked to people that went there, they said that SATs are only a component of everything. While I know my math score is by no means impressive, do you mean to say that they’d see that I’m geared towards one part of the school, that I was student rep of the 20th largest county in the country, and a Congressional page, and working for a national organization, and a published writer, and in good academic standing in every single thing except one part of one standardized test, and say “Thanks but no thanks?”

I’ve been hearing other things from my counselors and teachers, and I just wanted to clarify. I mean no combativeness or rudeness. :)
