Obama and the effect of experience.

[Does Experience Matter in a President? - TIME](http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1717926,00.html)

I find the “Obama is not experienced enough” argument reasonable and rational but irrelevant. The above posted Time Magazine article presents quantitative evidence that experience is poor criteria for electing an official and anecdotal evidence of experienced politicians make mistakes.

Any comments?

Hillary would have been better.

Experience is not much of a plus if you can’t remember it.

Obama is the best candidate we could have hoped for.

I’ve thought about this a bunch in this election year. I have felt that experience, which the McCain camp trumps, is overrated. While there is something to be said for experience, it matters who the person is and that experience might not all be good. It might even be stale ideas. Sometimes, someone with a fresh vision, even with less years on the job, brings something better along than someone who keeps doing the same old same old. I prefer to look for qualities/attributes in a candidate (along with their ideas). A person can be a leader and not have a long resume. So what? Another thing is that a president doesn’t act alone in his decision making but has an entire team of advisors in specialized areas. He/she doesn’t have to have done it all before landing the job and doing the job well. So what if another person has been a senator for more years? That doesn’t matter to me in deciding who is best for a job. I care more about their ideas and character and ability to lead. The detailed knowledge on every subject doesn’t all have to be proven by having done it all already before they take on the job. Fresh perspectives can be good. There are those on staff to advise in an area as needed. Has every president who has had experience been terrific? Nope. I think there are traits one brings to the job that are more important than what tasks they have done so far on their resume.

I thought all of this before even reading the article. i truly think the issue of experience in this campaign is unimportant to me in deciding my choice of candidate, even though one candidate is touting this as the most important factor.

I particularly like the following two quotes in the linked article:
