Obama

Did any of you Chicago kids go see Obama at Grant Park?

Half the school was there.

I would’ve gone, but I’ve been to Lollapalooza, and I know how unpleasantly crowded Grant Park can get. By the way, beefs, how was it?

Pfft, personally I think all the benefits of Lolla far outweigh the crowds. Especially Radiohead…

Ahh man, Radiohead would have been awesome. I got to see Daft Punk last year at Grant Park for Lolla. That was a treat. I would have enjoyed being there last night.

I’m a parent and I went to Grant Park by myself. I think I got there just past ten thirty.
It was pleasantly crowded, a tremendously ebullient crowd and every kind of people. Tourists, too. 240,000 or so plus me. I was there when the Obama family took the stage, I couldn’t see them. I was looking through trees from the top of the bridge (acoustics were good there) just east of those two statues of Indians on horseback. I stayed and stayed and watched the whole crowd leave, while I stood on that bridge. Many high fives and peace signs and spontaneous chants of “No More Bush”. I spoke to people from out of state. The big flag on the PVC pipe passed right by me. What a sight that was…all those people filling Michigan Avenue and the streets going west. And everyone seemed be sporting a different Obama T-shirt design. Finally the mounted police rode north on Michigan to reopen the street for the street sweepers and traffic.

The CTA train down and back was half full, both ways. Very, very merry. An unforgettable night and temp in the 70s!

I’ve been working in Florida as an organizer for the campaign, and judging by how awesome it was down here (I’m just waking up), chicago must have been a blast.

One of the newspapers this morning said, “The city is walking on air”, that’s a good description.

S1 was there. I sent him a text asking what it was like, he sent back two words: Amazing. Amazing.

i was getting choked up during obama’s speech. it was a magical time =)

I was in Grant Park. It was amazing. One of the best days of my life so far. Everyone was exuberant.
