Anyone here excited for tomorrow!?
I just saw this tonight - I don’t know why your message didn’t show up until now! I hope you got good news last weekend! My kid applied to the conservatory and the college, so he won’t hear until this Saturday.
I did get good news, thank you so much!! I hope he gets in :)) Their scholarship was really really generous!
S25 accepted with $32k merit scholarship. 1510 SAT, 3.98UW/4.4W, 9APs, solid ECs in theater & debate. The merit is generous but the cost is still too high for us at $57k.
Congratulations that’s awesome!!!
We have one school acceptance where the estimated cost is $87k and our son got no merit! We’ll have to ask them to reconsider if he wants to go there, but it’s more likely he will choose another school that has offered much more merit (and is honestly a much better fit for him).
Edited to add - congrats on the acceptance! And good luck on the reconsideration for the merit. I hope they can do more for you.
Are Oberlin decisions coming tomorrow? The 22nd?
Decisions for the arts and sciences college came out on the 15th, but decisions for the conservatory come out tomorrow (the 22nd)!!
These Obie alum parents in NH are psyched to bring our accepted D25 to campus for a visit next month. I must say it’s definitely different to experience this whole process as a parent vs a student. Our kid was also admitted to St. Lawrence University, Denison, Dickinson, and Skidmore, so we’re visiting those campuses too. It’s gonna be an interesting few weeks!
Ooo! I hope all visits go well. How did you like Oberlin when you went? It’s one of my top choices, tied with Bard. I love everything about it but am a little nervous about it being in Ohio haha
We loved Oberlin, though it was almost 40 years ago, lol. Made the closest friends of our lives there. I hear you on the Ohio thing, but Oberlin the college and Oberlin the town remain very welcoming places in our experience, and we have numerous friends in Ohio who say it is much more of a mix of folks than you may be led to believe. My own family is in various parts of MO (both rural and city), and it’s the same — depends on where you are.
got the call last friday that i was accepted into the new BM in music theatre at the conservatory! haven’t officially committed yet (trying to squeeze them for a bit more aid first), but i plan to commit very soon!! so excited to meet everyone!
Congratulations! I was accepted into the music composition program. May I ask how you’re negotiating your financial aid? I also plan to commit soon but it would be very helpful if they were able to give me just a little bit more.
thank you so much, and congrats to you as well!!
a few weeks ago, i expressed my interested in making a scholarship appeal to the director of conservatory admissions, josh teaster, and he updated my student portal to include a merit appeal form. i attached award letters from my competitive offers, as well as a brief explanation of why i was making an appeal, and then i sent it all off to the appeals committee. now i’m just waiting to hear back!
i was also taken aback last week when i got an email that my conservatory dean scholarship award had been increased by a significant amount. apparently the director of my degree program had been advocating on my behalf with admissions, so they decided to increase my award. to be clear, i didn’t ask her to do or say anything about me - it was just the power of word of mouth i suppose. and i’m incredibly thankful for that as well!! so that was a pleasant bonus.
beat of luck to you with your financial aid, and please let me know if you have any other questions!!
