The it* refers to the passage.

I put genial and ingritiating and I will stick to my opinoin for that one. @scarlettlovesivy.

I have problems with all the answers… obsequious and ingratiating are synonyms and i admit he seemed like he was acting genially, but he was also being flattering “looked at us appreciatively, as if to congratulate us on being a family of exactly five”. So if people have a problem with obsequious, they should have a problem with ingratiating… Also re-reading it nothing points towards him being measured, seems like an implication one would make based on him being a salesman and answers are never implied

“he said, and looked at us appreciatively”
"“Well? How does it feel?” Sonny’s red face filled the window; his voice boomed, bossy and cheerful, through the glass.
"Come on, Kids, he said. “Get in and show your mom and dad how much space you’ve got.”

That’s where I got ingratiating from. synonyms for measured are: thoughtful, careful, carefully chosen, studied, calculated, planned, considered, deliberate, restrained

A booming voice does not sound measured to me. If he deliberately was putting on a show, then sure. But you have to infer something about his motives to get that answer

@DAIMYO isn’t obsequious more severe? Like a REALLY sycophantic person rather than someone doing a bit of brown nosing? But yeah, this question really depends on the exact definition of the words used.

The reason was how ingratiating works is because the definition is intending to gain approval or favor, which is what Sonny actually did to the family. Genial means friendly and cheerful.

Ok i understand what genial means, but ingratiating and obsequious are synonyms, and he was also literally flattering them

based on the evidence I think we are done dissecting the first passage. It’s happily complying with his instructions and ingratiating and genial. Next passage :)

Ingratiating can also mean trying to flatter aomeone.

Fine, lets see who misses what when the score verification comes out.

Yea so u still havent shown me a problem with “obsequious and FLATTERING”

I see your point @DAIMYO but you never know may be the question will be thrown out.

Not trying to fight anyone just saying… I think it’s a horrible question with horrible answers that are way too subjective like even looking at and only using evidence from the text i feel like it could be multiple answers

I think obsequious is like a more severe version of ingratiating. He was flattering, but not “obedient or attentive to an excessive or servile degree.”

He’s not trying to flatter anyone though…

@mystic7 Yea i get u im probably wrong on this one and am counting it as one of the CR i got wrong… i just really dont like the question lol

can we move on to the next passage? lol

I agree… stupid question, stupid answers. It better be a level 5 question lol.

@SAT2014 pick one to discuss then. I feel like torturing myself more :P

@DAIMYO @Mystic7 yeah i dont think that Sonny was flattering, he was just trying to be a good salesman by talking alot about the car and what is has to offer. I put confident and measured but i really have no clue at this point even after reading that over

For the writers block passage, the tone of passage 2 compared to that of passage 1 was didactic, correct?

Yeah it was
