October 18 PSAT Discussion

Isn’t it always about the paragraph? Or at least the word in context?

There are some questions about “how is the word important” or “how does the author think of ‘[insert word here’”.

^ That’s true…

I usually read through the questions first and mark the words in the text so I pay extra attention when I read about them

I should do that =) I should thoroughly read the questions, too…

hmm. they didnt need to mention the census to get the point across, though.

edit-- it was definitely the word, not the paragraph…i remember thinking over this a lot. the question was, what is the significance behind the mention of the word census? not the taking of it, if i remember correctly

It said like, the use of the phrase “massive census” but then it said in lines 45-78 or whatever…

The question had to do with why he mentioned the census, and it was pretty clear that the census portion was put in to show contrast – showing how he had two interests, business and the political uprising, but there was some give and take between the two

Damn it, that’s what I had but I changed it.

What did y’all get for the meerkat one? I remember thinking that none were good, but one was best.

I feel like I put C for the meerkats?

I can’t remember the sentence except that there was some awkward part about like “even though they stand on their hind legs”?

It was something about meerkats being only yea inches tall even on their hind legs, but they are carnivores…

I have a quick question for you guys about the lullaby passage.

When the second guy compared music to auditory cheesecake, did you put “something with little value other than to be enjoyed” or something along those lines? I was fairly sure on that but I’d like to double check.

Did anyone put the ‘although’ one? I remember there was a reason for not putting that one. However, that was one that made sense (contrasting being small with being carnivorous).

i heard it mentioned afew pages back but what did you guys get for the two spheres inside the cylinder question?

Yea that’s what I got for the cheesecake one.

I believe its the “little value” choice.

I think i got 4pi^2 for the cylinder.

highopes: that’s what i got for the cheesecake question

Anyone have any clue on the meerkat one?

I got 4pi^3 for the circles one.

^yeah sorry that’s what I meant.

The meerkat one. I remember narrowing it down to 2 choices but then finding an obvious error like “as” instead of “are” in one of the two…or maybe I’m remembering incorrectly…
