October 2005 Real SAT CR Help!!

I was doing Critical Reading Section 4 and have some questions i really need help with.

(#13) In line 24, “sense” most nearly means
(A) Definition
(B) Intelligence
© Plausibility
(D) Consensus
(E) Impression
I thought it was D - the answer is E. Explanation please?

(#16) The question in lines 39-40 (“had … him”) suggests that Cecil fears that Mr. Beebe will
(A) detect the lack of originality in his thinking
(B) Consider him to be vain
© Tell lucy of his inappropriate remark
(D) Distrust him as a confidant
(E) Attempt to block his engagement to Lucy
Was stuck between C and D. I thought the answer was D, The correct answer is B. No Idea how.

Couldn’t find proper explanations online.

he had the sense… he had the impression. consensus means agreement with one another

for #16, the answer is B because Cecil fears Mr. Beebe will think the way in which he announced his engagement is conceited and ludicrous. Reread the whole paragraph.
