October 2006 - SAT Math Thread

did you kid 280k for one of the answers towards the end of a section?

i think the question asked “how many different designs can u get.”

i put twenty and im pretty sure it was right:

Colors: A,B,C,D,E for five colors

So combinations are AB, AC, AD, AE, BA, BC, BD, BE, CA, CB, CD, CE, DA, DB, DC, DE, EA, EB, EC, ED

THey asks for the number of possible DESIGNS so AB is NOT the same as BA (Color B is in the middle and Color A is on the outside is not Color A in the middle and COlor B on the outside)

Also do any of you remember this one:

(R^2)st=200 and rst=40, what is rs?

I put thirty…any thoughts?

it was talking about colors!

yeah one of the answers was 280k

for the wxyz thing, its not 5940, because I still remember it. z=w-5, y=w+1, x=x+z+w… so if you plug in 5 for w, then you would get 6 for y, and 11 for x, and 0 for z… I was so frustrated with this question, and I swear it was y=w+1 and not -1, unless I was blind during the test, so correct me if I’m wrong

sweet! ---- what about the one about the BC line segment did the answer have to be less than 1.5?

cuz i put .5

since they had to be different colors, although nowhere did it say anything about them being opposite one another… which means
1-2 2-1 3-1 4-1 5-1
1-3 2-3 3-2 4-2 5-2
1-4 2-4 3-4 4-3 5-3
1-5 2-5 3-5 4-5 5-4
the answer would have been 20… This is not repeating colors, and I think the significance of the diagram was to show that the ball colors being reversed would be completely different ball …

yea, i just didn’t feel like writing blue, yellow, red, etc. so I assigned a color as A, B, C, D, or E

1, -2, 4, -8, 16, -32

isn’t the answer -32? why is it 32?

What was the last fill-in question? not the asnwer, the question

i think this question should be thrown out — its an interpretation thing…

I am going to kill myself if the answer was 10. I did 5C2 and then I thought you needed to multiply it by 3 because there were 3 parts. As 30 wasn’t a choice, I thought I was missing something. I think I should read the questions better :frowning:
Yes one was 280K

So basically the debate about the ball question is if you could have the same color combo but in different places (ex. Red-Blue is not Blue-Red)?

If that’s the case, does anyone remember the directions exactly?

there was a question about the line segment and which would be the smallest

v+w etc. I put the one that was -.50

if w is 5 then y would be 4 because it said w=y+1

B to liber

um… i don’t usually talk about the math questions, but it was definitely 20 guys…

yup! it was B i remember that

the question about the multiplying the preceding number by -2, did it give you the first number as 1?
