***October 2015 SAT (US Only) Thread***

Yup that’s the one. @IvyHopeful98 I’m sure it didn’t get most of us on here, but several of my friends all missed it because they stopped once they found a number on the left that made it a real number.

@Runners Yup, I know it got some of my friends too. The question did make me do an immediate check once I got an answer though. Wanted to make sure I answered the question correctly.

@tomatoes124 hey u got it right. it is 3. Btw… I am ASIAN.

@canflytosky hey u got it wrong. it is 7. Btw… ASIAN does not make you good at math

@JuicyMango I do not think Math part is “that easy”… Just people did not realize their mistakes

@Canflytosky: Huh? I think you tagged the wrong person :P.

If I get a 2300+ on the SAT I won’t eat junk food for a week…that is VERY hard for me to do.

@Hermit9 The master of CollegeBoard Standardized Testing…Can you please lay out your scores on the SAT, ACT, and SAT Subject Tests? Best scores only… Throughout the past few months I have been seeing you post your scores. Please respond. Also, please give one tip that you found helped you the most on the SAT, and one tip for the ACT. Also, I’m using Barron’s for Math Level 2…is that a good idea?

@JuicyMango Have you taken Math Level 2? Is barron’s good for that? I have been using it for the past week. How hard is the Math 2 Subject Test?

@satwreckerZ2 There are dozens of people on CC with far better scores than mine, but here you go:

SAT 2110 C 690 CR 740 M 680 W 9 E (this recent SAT should be better)
ACT 34 C 35 E 35 M 34 R 32 S 36 W
SAT II 800 MII 660 Physics (yikes!)

I think the best way to improve scores is to familiarize yourself with the test. For the SAT, try to avoid careless errors by reading the questions carefully. For ACT, nail the timing. I didn’t study MII, but I hear Dr. Chung’s is the best prep. Barron’s is a great company too, so you’ll be fine.

@satwreckerZ2
Barron’s is awesome if you like to over train for something. In my experience the Barron’s practice tests have been far harder than the actual test. If you struggle to scrounge together a 700 or so on a Barron’s test, you can expect to breeze through the real thing with 15 minutes to twiddle your thumbs at the end and an 800. If you can get a 750+ on a Barron’s, don’t sweat it at all.
More than anything with this test, make sure you understand all of the calculator shortcuts. If you are reasonably decent at math, can catch your own stupid mistakes, and know all of the multiple choice test tricks (like using the answers, using your calculators graph intercept calculations, and knowing about all of the operations found with the “math” button on your calculator such as logbase and summation), the test will be a breeze. In my opinion it’s not even comparable to the science subject tests like physics, which requires so much knowledge and equation memorization, but the colleges don’t really look at it that way, so it’s an effective one to use.

In summary, Barron’s is great, but don’t let them terrify you if you don’t do so well. Know your way around a calculator. Know all of the time saving tricks for mc questions.

@Runners I’m actually confused why anybody would get 3 as an answer to that question because it makes no sense that 3 would be an answer because then you would have to be dealing with like imaginary numbers on the X side for the equation to work.

@JuicyMango If I get 2300+ on the SAT I will streak naked around my school the next day with a giant middle finger drawn on my chest and stomach.

wish everyone did well, I just hope that I did not make a stupid mistake like not filling in a when I know the answer is c…

*like filling in a

@RHSclassof16 Yeah that’s how I see it too, but the point was that my friends were only looking for a value to plug into the left side of the equation to make the left side non-imaginary, and that value would be 3. They forgot that the question required the right side of the equation to also be non-imaginary and have an integer for x, so they stopped incrementing y as soon as the left side became non-imaginary and moved onto the next question.

@MD123456 Now you’re making me worry about this

Did anyone get like at least 4-5 no errors in error identification?

Feeling like Kim Davis #freedomfromCollegeboardjail

Also, I was curious to assess the validity of scanning college confidential feeds when attempting to estimate scores. For those of you who have taken the SAT previously and have poured over these feeds, were you able to estimate your score with a considerable degree of accuracy?
