Did anyone receive 76/80 subscore on writing and 11 on the essay? If so, what did you receive as a score overall for writing?
anyone have a way to imporve critical reading from 730 to 760 by the november SAT? My vocab is perfect, its just those passages…
hey, the best advice for anyone needing help from passages is to get a study book or tutor, like “The critical reader” by Erica Meltzer.
That said, I ended up getting 800 without any above-mentioned materials mostly because I developed my own testing strategy. However, this may not work for you so take it with a grain of salt.
First, read the passage in entirety, there’s no reason not to. You have plenty of time. And read and understand the question completely so you have a specific place to look for the answer in the passage.
Second, SAT English is nothing like regular English because SAT English has only 1 right answer. Therefore, if you are reasonably proficient in high-school English, your intuition will make one answer “jump” out at you and its probably right. So don’t change your answer unless you have definitive proof it’s another answer.
Third, if your intuition doesn’t make one jump out, the answer is always in the passage. (Not the best advice, but its hard to explain.
Believe it or not, I was getting 720’s and 730’s two days before Oct. 3 and I tried this method the Friday before the test. And I got an 800(and a confidence boost).
So good luck and sorry for the long response.
@consulting I got a 76/80 and an 11 essay, and received a 790. From what I’ve seen here, that MC and essay have been either 790 or 800 (allegedly depending on what essay you had?). Hope that’s helpful!
@vook99 Helpful I suppose, but still incredibly frustrating (2390 vs. 2400 :/)
@consulting I understand frustration. My highest subscore is writing, which 1/4 of the colleges on my list don’t even look at even though it’s shown to be the subscore that is the greatest indicator of success.
Gr still crying over the fact that -3 in Math is a 720.
Look for a “wrong word” that ruins an otherwise good answer. Go through a blue book CR section, look at the wrong answers and practice finding that wrong word that they used to ruin that answer choice.
@PRAN1999 thanks for the advice. I will defintely try that method as i currently use method which involves doing the problems as I read along.
If anyone cares or wants to use it to create an accurate curve for this test, I got 80/80 and 11 essay for 800.
@Hermit9 Hey man, how did you end up doing on the October SAT??
@consulting yes, I got a 76/80 and an 11 and received an 800.
(mentioned this previously :P)
Greeneggsandsam9:
Same here: 1990 (M 640 / CR 660 / W 690). What I really bummed the most about is the Writing. I was scoring in the low 700s consistently on my last few full length practice tests in a testing setting. That was with 8s on the essay. I would only get a handful of the multiple choice wrong. On the October test, I got a 10 on the essay (I did a little preparation beforehand and was aiming for a 10 so I was thrilled), but with the usual number of multiple choice wrong, that should have put me in 750 territory and done as far as writing superscoring goes. My plan was to focus solely on CR and Math for the Dec. and Jan. tests. Instead, I must have bombed the multiple choice to get a 690 with a 10 essay. What the heck!
My CR reading scores were consistently in the 700-720 range, so the 660 was disappointing. Math is right where I had been scoring, so clearly the area I need the most improvement in for the next 2 tests.
My goal was to be in the 2100-2200 range (over 700 in each section). With superscoring, 2 more testing opportunities, and hopefully more targeted studying, is this realistic? I am hoping my CR and Writing scores were an anomaly and due to nerves and taking the real test for the first time…
@ibld313 For writing, I would recommend Erica Meltzer’s “The Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar.” It basically goes over every single type of writing question that the College Board could ask.
@ibld313 I got an 800 on writing just by using that book. It really helps.
Thank you. We just ordered Erica Meltzer’s book for critical reading because I still need more practice with tackling the reading passages. I didn’t think to look into the Grammar one. I felt like I knew most of the grammar pretty well, and I was willing to give up a handful of hard questions that tested some obscure rules. I think I made careless errors and will know more when the test questions and answers become available.
What I really like about Erica Meltzer’s book is that it teaches you how to determine the error tested by simply looking at the question. The techniques she uses are really neat.
To anybody that has had their score delayed in the past: how long does it usually take? I called the Collegeboard and they said I would receive a call between 5-7 business days, but not that the call would necessarily include the score. Also, unrelated, but I also would very highly recommend Erica Meltzer’s grammar book to anyone that needs help in that section. It brought me from high 600s/low 700s on practice tests to 800 scores.
I got 2220 (CR:650, Math:770, Writing:800 w/ 10 on essay). Should I retake to fix my critical reading score? I don’t know if I can end up getting over 2220 again.
I got a 2090, I feel like I should retake it but I’m not sure if I should choose December and January or only January. The October sat was my first time taking the sat. However, I feel like it won’t look good if I take the sat in December and January. so I’m leaning towards signing up only for January. Any advice?
I got a 2250. (CR 730 Math 720 Writing 800 with 9 on the essay) Is it worth taking it again in December to try for 2300?
2220 :’( M 770 W 770 but stupid CR 680 gosh my life is a mess i’m definitely retaking next month
