Got home an Internet was still down so I called tech support and they are sending me a new modem which will probably arrive Tuesday so I am a slave to being in the offic for work until I can get some kind of service at home.

Anyone have a link to a CT outage map?

here it is: [CL&P Outage Map - Courant.com](http://www.courant.com/hc-clp-map,0,7556607.htmlpage)

BCE - You’ll need two maps, as CT has two (major) utilities:
[Outage Map](http://outage.cl-p.com/outage/outagemap.aspx)
And here is the one provided by UI’s Dept. of Obfuscation:
[The United Illuminating Company](<a href=“404page - UI”>404page - UI)

BCE - Is that a DSL Modem? AT&T is good about paying return shipping … when it turns out your old modem works just fine. Been there, and there again, and there again.

Did any of you folks without power in Connecticut happen to buy a powerball lottery ticket? They are still waiting for the $254M jackpot won by soemone in Connecticut to step forward…

Funny thing about CL&P’s outage map. They changed it this afternoon to add more colors. So at first it appears that progress is quicker, umtil you look closely and realize that they changed the “ranges” that go with each color. Way to go CL&P.

Any minute now. Any minute now

CT is definitely worse off than NH is.

They are sending a new modem. I will toss the old one. I am planning on dropping Fairpoint once ComCast is working reasonably well, hopefully on Sunday. It might be better to have both.

Can anyone explain to me how entire towns can be >90% without electricity FIVE DAYS after the storm?

I find it unbelievable that large towns like West Hartford still are so in the dark.

Some towns still have huge amounts of trees down with tangled wires in them. I talked to an NSTAR guy today - he’s worked 18 hour days since Saturday. We have a generator whic powers heat/fridge and a few lights so we were okay, but only had such internet as came over smart phones, and hubby’s work wireless card.
It was a mess! Our plow guy started on our street Saturday night and was still working on it yesterday. Our yard alone (which is of modest size) had several very large branches down or half-way down. A good friend was at our house , got home Saturday night and found THREE fallen trees blocking her (somewhat long) driveway.

My ex, out in New Jersey, just got power back yesterday after 4 or 5 days.

In northern NJ, we fortunately got power restored late Monday eve.
But MANY are still out.
Including several neighborhoods in our town which is the county seat. Not isolated out in the country but downtown neighborhoods. And they are surrounded by people with lights on. There does not seem to be a cohesive systematic plan for the restoration. It just appears so random.

My brother works for CL-P. I talked to my SIL yesterday – she said he is working 12 hour shifts, days at least, starting last Sunday. He normally works at corporate as a computer wizard of some sort. He started with the company 20 + years ago as an electronics technician working in power plants calibrating gauges or something. His power restoration job is out in the field assessing damage and talking to customers and town officials.

My SIL told me that during Irene, he started with a 24 hr shift, and then worked 12 hr shifts at night for the duration. She is home with two elementary school children and a stable full of horses (she’s not the horse person!) trying to cope. They have no power either.

Evidently CL&P needs a little help after all. The National Guard has been called out to help clear downed trees.

[Power Outages Continue After October Snowstorm - Courant.com](http://www.courant.com/news/weather/hc-october-snowstorm-20111028,0,3272321.story)

I have no doubt that the customer service reps, the linemen, and all of the workers at CL&P are working their tails off. This is not their fault. I think people are looking to (top) management and asking - how could this happen? Were the disaster plans well thought out? What was learned from Irene?

I actually had a dream last night that the power came back on. Rats, foiled again.

Any minute now. Any minute now.

There are now concerns that the SATs this weekend will have to be moved or rescheduled. One high school where they are scheduled has power, but no phones or emergency communications at all.

One exam in Hartford, and another in Avon, have been rescheduled to the 19th of November. There are probably others, but those are the ones I heard on the radio this morning. It sounded like SOME would go on as scheduled, and SOME would not.

Still no power. I had to do a presentation to a client’s board of directors. I had to do it from our house, sitting in pitch black, with 2 wool blankets, with no notes, off the top of my head. What fun.

Now if we don’t get power back before the LSU - Alabama game, I’ll get seriously annoyed.

Who are you rooting for, Hayden?

No dog in that fight, just rooting for a good game. But at this point, I’ll take a horrible game so long as I can actually watch it on one of those big boxes that plug into the wall (it’s been so long - what do you call those things again?), while being able to sit in the den without several sweatshirts and a blanket.
