I’m thinking of going out of the country after I graduate, most likely Japan, Korea, Taiwan or the Philippines. I plan on working in the entertainment business. Not just like a random guy who accepts phone calls or something, but like actually as a singer, actor, script writer… (weird for someone that’s in engineering huh?)

Does this count as legitimate work experience for business school?

Yes. Keep pay stubs and tax returns for background check that is usually conducted prior to your enrollment. Regardless the experience, make sure you have a good story on “why MBA?”.

So it wouldn’t be ridiculous or anything? Thanks I’ll make sure to keep my pay stubs and tax returns. As for why MBA, I’m still working on it. I want to be able to start up a great entertainment industry in Asia or something similar.

I can’t speak for b-school adcom as a whole. But folks that I know usually have a soft spot for those who went through the less travelled paths and succeed.

This is key. You need to sell the admissions committees on why you want an MBA. If you can sell them on the fact that you are going to leverage your entertainment experience, along with an MBA, in order to start a business in that industry, then you are money.
