Odd Comparison

A good friend of mine recently had a choice between two schools, Dexter and Winchendon. How would they compare in terms of academics, and status? Thanks in advance

I do not mean to be snarky, but these schools are so far off the beaten path – so unknown – that I suspect the appropriate answer is that they both compare very unfavorably to many, many other schools in academics and status. I would shoot higher.

Didn’t your mother ever teach you that if you don’t have something nice to say don’t say anything at all?

There are plenty of people who read this board who are not interested in acronym schools for a variety of reasons. Posts like yours are the reason so few of them contribute here.

Probbaly what Devolution meant to say is that if you are going to drop $52K a year on boarding school, you should make sure the school you go to is worth that kind of financial investment. Schools that are not selctive to some degree (I would define that as <50% of students are accepted), may not be worth it unless you live in a place with terrible public schools and you just can’t do better. If the schools takes most everyone that applies, then it is pretty much academically similar to public school. Ditto for the general cailber of people. And by the way, public school is generally not bad.

Devolution, thanks for the kind answer…
His situation was much different than the average applicants. His english skills are not on par, and he wanted to leave a third world country. He received substantial FA, due to him being a hockey player, so I dont think that money would be an issue in his case.
Hopefully you attend one of your great acronym schools, so he doesn’t get the pleasure of meeting you.
