Odd Pre-req situation

Hi CC,

I’m completing the pre-reqs for certain UCs and come across a slight dilemma. I’ took Calculus for Business/Life Science majors I at Diablo Valley College in Spring 2010 semester and got an A in it. However, in order to take physics which is a pre-req for microbiology major, I had to take a regular calculus for math/engineering majors in Fall 2010. I got a C in it due to a heavy course load (was taking biology, chemistry, statistics and psych at the same time but got A’s in those).

The thing is, Math 182 (Business Calc I) and Math 192 (Engineering Calc I) both satisfy the first calculus class for many schools (Davis, LA, Berkeley, etc). I already plan on taking Math 183 (Business Calc II) next semester to satisfy the entire calc requirement. I was just wondering if they are going to count my Math 192 grade instead of my Math 182 grade. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

If both of the classes are articulated with the same UC class at the particular school, in your circumstance they will count your first grade (the A) you received when they calculate your GPA but you still need to include your new grade (the C) when you enter grades on your UC application. Keep in mind, grad schools will often count both grades when determining your GPA.
