Odd question

Can a being live without interaction with other humans, socially speaking. To elaborate on the question, a being can interact with other humans, but can that being survive without interaction that involves social discourse?

I think that some human beings are capable of it- some deeply autistic kids, for axample, would much rather be left alone- but I don’t think that anybody who society views as basically balanced could. I’m very introverted but even I would go insane if I had to go without any kind of interaction for long amounts of time.

Disregarding special cases, I’d say no. I remember hearing of an “experiment” where a baby was fed etc., but never held. He or she died. Adding this to information regarding the mental and physical states of solitary-confinement-prisoners/patients*, I’m assuming that human beings are by nature sociable mammals, and thus not capable of leading an adequate life without interaction.

I’m not sure of the validity of this experiment.
*The information regarding prisoner’s/patient’s states of being probably aren’t pure, as they were probably unstable to begin with.

Have you ever seen the documentaries on the disturbed children who were imprisoned?

I don’t think people can survive without contact with other humans. However, minimal contact would definitely work. From my general observations, people with more social interaction are also happier. Fixiz2, if you’re out there, what’s your take on this? You did that poll a few weeks ago on this very subject.
