Went to a university right out of high school to see if I could even handle college, and now that I have shown myself I can I’ve begun the process of reverse transferring to my local CC. My reasoning behind it is simply that I was considering going to a larger school from the start, and then they raised tuition by 8% and dropped my financial aid by $3000, making it roughly the same price to go somewhere with a greater reputation. My GPA at my current school is a 3.93, and I have approximately 70-80 volunteer hours (From coaching wrestling at my old high school). Ultimately, what are my odds of getting into either Michigan State or the University of Michigan if I complete my Associate of Arts, English, at my current CC with similar grades? Also, any other places I should apply to?
It’s not unusual for people to transfer “down”. Financial reasons are a very good reason for doing so.
With the schools you mentioned, your having transfered from a four year to a cc shouldn’t hurt you.
If your CC has a wrestling team (some do), you might consider seeing what you can do for the team, if you’re interested.
- Keep in mind that transfer students very rarely get competitive need-based financial aid packages and top tier institutions tend not to hand out merit aid to anybody because everybody applying is a good student.
- What is your intended major when you transfer?
- What's your budget per year before your family will need loans?
